Imperial College Medicine Applicants 2012

I figured there would already be a thread for 2012, but there wasn't.

Anyone else planning to apply?

I'm almost certain that I am :excited:

EDIT: Might be useful to know, the BMAT cut-off last year was: 4.9 4.9 2.5C (http://www1.imperial.ac.uk/medicine/teaching/undergraduate/medicine/admissions/requirements/)

I can see why that might not appeal to everyone, I quite like it though the whole specialist science thing. That being said, science itself is so broad, they have so many courses, I don't think I'll get sick of it lol.

Nah I didn't feel it at the time. It was afterwards when someone from KCL talked to me about it, ok their biased, but still, I know you are in London, but your dormates are all going to be scientists! As much as I love science and hate arty subjects - when it comes to socialising - being with scientists only would be a bit boring IMO :frown:

Don't get me wrong, I'm still applying cause I loved it and would love to go there!

Tbf, not all of the courses are pure science, so there'll be flickers of language-y/management-y/etc people too lol.

I am aware than imperial needs 3A2+1AS subjects but i am not permitted to take 4 subs. Have emailed them regarding this but no reply for weeks. So, do 3A2 subs with a reason for not taking the 4th AS meet their entry requirements?

Try calling the admissions department, if you can. I reckon you'd need a good reason seeing as they pretty much state everywhere that they require a fourth AS.

Kinda have to apply here, my choices are restricted to London Unis. Hopefully BMAT goes well, otherwise I'll only have 1 other Uni to hang onto. :frown:

Where are you applying to? Apart from Imperial and UCL the other London ones all use UKCAT.

Well imperial and barts are probably the only unis i can apply to, I'll probably go for kings anyway although my gcses are fairly moderate. Can't apply to ucl as im not gonna be able to do Bio to A2 and no st georges as i don't meet their min gcse requirement :'(

sure, imperial is full of sciencey people, but there is the option of taking humanities, arts and language classes (which are actually quite popular) if you fancy something a bit different.

plus don't forget this is london, it's full of non-science students, you might just have to venture out of south ken to find them :wink:

It is true that ICL prefer students to be doing "sciency" A levels? or do they not discriminate as long as you have 2 sciences at A level. :smile:

People always say it's slightly risky to apply to Imperial with a humanities/arts subject but I've actually heard of quite a few people getting in with more than one arts, so I'd like to think it's not true lol.

Speaking as one of those people: people say lots of things (!). Going by their stated entry requirements, if you've taken Biology & Chemistry then there's really no issue.
