Re: Are you afraid of death?lI think if somebody told you the date you would die it would be even worse. Because you would have to live with the date always looming in your mind. Kind of like trying to have fun when you know **** is about to go down when you get back home or the end of the week comes around.(Original post by pixie<3)
So long as I can think about it theoretically (and I've been doing quite a lot of existentialism reading recently) I'm fine.
If I was suddenly told I was about to die I'd probably be terrified though
I think we should, or should have, all posted our ages as well; I'd be willing to bet my hat that the people concerned are either really young or getting up there in age. Also people who are less successful and/or educated. Not saying that's the case, mind you, but I think that would be the trend.

Re: Are you afraid of death?
No. All Russians aren't.
But really, no, simply because I try to live every day to the fullest, and even though I may be classed as 'sad' by society, it is how I perceive myself that is most important. If I were to die tomorrow, I wouldn't be p****** off as I wouldn't have gotten to try/do so many things in life, but I would be happy that I lived my life to the best extent that I consider possible.
"Life isn't about the breaths we take, it's about the moments that take our breath away." - Many people would not have a lot of these moments, but I am very easy to please and just get happy over the smallest of things (which is good against depression etc
), So yeah. In essence no, not afraid.
Plus, what is there to be afraid of? God? No afterlife? Sure thing I would be upset if there was no afterlife as I try to be a good and kind person, and it isn't nice not to have that rewarded, but if there isn't, I would love to know what else there is. Dammit, the curiosity is 'killing' me. Considering I am crap with English, I am proud of that pun thing that I did
If I do die, I wish everyone on Earth a successful and happy life. -
Re: Are you afraid of death?
Yeah, it worries me but once you get to the stage of accepting your mortality and learn to live your life in the most productive way you can, the fear sort of passes. It's an inevitability, but we are here to enjoy life with our family and friends so let's make the most of it.

Re: Are you afraid of death?it's just a nice thought to have instead of the thought of being in a state of non existance. I think if I thought like that I just wouldn't be able to cope and probably end up being afraid of death again like when I was younger.(Original post by Young Spade)
Why would you focus on that when it would simply be irrelevant when you're gone? The important is when you're alive. I'm not going to have some elaborate, expensive funeral when I'm gone. I'm going to make sure the (then, former) wife has what she needs, and then the rest can go to charity or wherever it needs to go (kids, etc.).
And being remembered doesn't mean having an elaborate funeral (which I'm not planning on having either) it's about what you've done in your life and how have you made an impact on others lifes. I'm an optimistic person so I try to focus on the positives

Re: Are you afraid of death?
I am more scared of dying prematurely, I am not bothered by the pain of death just not existing I find strange to think about I guess, but by the time we get old (hopefully I will get there!) I think people come to accept death. It is a part of life it is very weird though to think there were millions of years before me and there will be after too. It's something that we will all experience, I just try to see it as going to bed after a long day

Re: Are you afraid of death?
I think what I'm most scared of is not actually death, but what I will miss out on e.g. people who died hundreds of years ago will never know about the internet or all the amazing books that have been written since. I know this sounds silly because I won't know what I'm missing when I'm actually dead, but it really does scare me when I think of all the amazing things in the future that I will never experience.

Re: Are you afraid of death?
i am petrified of dying, as a child i used to sleep with my hand over my heart ...
the fact i could die makes me avoid doing things like going places im not supposed incase i die there and my parents would think "what was she doing there" and cleaning my room and not leaving dirty underwear or bad books in my room cos if i die it'll be my parents tidying up and i dont want them to be dissapointed of me and their memory of me to be tainted
i know its quite sad

Re: Are you afraid of death?
Death doesn't scare me as much as the concept of getting old and the process of dying. I get frustrated when I think about how fast time passes, and I worry that my life will go by really fast and I'll be old before I know it. The thought of being old really scares me, it really bothers me to think that I'll still be alive but I won't be able to enjoy life as much as I can now, if that makes sense

Re: Are you afraid of death?
Nobody wants to die but knowing this Life is just a test and there is a life after it, that is eternal makes me feel better. But what scares me is dying in disbelief and having a record of bad deeds. Meaning that my eternal life would be spent in hell, scares the crap out of me.

Re: Are you afraid of death?
Not death itself but the process, will my death be a sudden swift exit or a cruel gruesome end? the latter is what I fear.
The thought that I'll never get to experience living again does make me angry, frustrated, saddened and wronged. But that, I'm afraid, is life. Until humanity finds a way to implant human consciousness into machines. There is nothing I can do.
This thread has reminded me of the need to live every day to the fullest possible. So I guess that's one positive thing. -
Re: Are you afraid of death?
I try not to think about it.
But I disagree with people saying that they fear how they die more so than the concept of actually being dead.
Pain is only temporary and everyone suffers from pain each day. But death is eternal and one can only hope that we are not conscious of our death, because that would be a terrible bore.
), So yeah. In essence no, not afraid.
