I don't fear death, it's the dying part I'm worried about!

I found a good quote for why you should not be afraid of death.

"If my awareness of the past and future makes me less aware of the present, I must begin to wonder weather I am actually living in the real world" - Alan Watts

the wisest amongst you are those who prepare for death before death comes
"Cowards die many times before their deaths,
The valiant never taste of death but once."

-William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar (Act II, Scene ii)

He wrote that in an era of faith when views on such a thing very different and eternal nothingness and the implications to ones life view werent issues.

Most should fear death as when the soul is parting with the body, its the most painful thing, unless of course the Merciful one have mercy on you.

Saying that, I could find many more quotes from that period to do with the pointlessness of life, (Immediately I think of Macbeth's "[...]out out brief candle!") but I understand from where you're coming.

According to your first quote a religious person who wouldnt think about death very much would be braver than one who faced reality. People who simply refuse to accept a truth, or people who simply refuse to look at it are the bravest among us?

My answer is that one must understand fear in order to master it. Feeling fear is an action that one must do in order to learn not to do.

Interesting, but I think championing fear in regards to death is either foolish or naive. You can't escape death by not fearing it; to quote Philip Larkin, "being brave lets no-one off the grave".

True but you can know that you would behave as you would wish to behave in the face of it.

I'm much more afraid of living an incomplete life and having some very unpleasant moments just before the moment of death.

When I was a child I was afraid of death, but in the following time I had not fear anymore.
I guess the scared of death disappeared by most of people when they getting older. Why I should think about death when I live? As long as I live I should enjoy my life. Or in other words: enjoy every moment in your life as long as its possible.

I think your problem is you are zooming too far out on your life, comparing its microscopic existence to the vast expanse of the universe. Concentrate on each second of each day, and think about how many seconds you have left to live. A lot.

"life is what you make it"

(...) Concentrate on each second of each day, and think about how many seconds you have left to live. (...)
And that is the problem. In an age in which fast pace dominate our society, many people have no time to think about that. In my opinion that is a wrong attitude by most of them. People should give their life more hours than hours more life (its a popular phrase here in Germany). We should consider that we have a single life.

I'm scared of getting old, but not particularly of dying. I'm just kinda curious I guess. I don't believe in heaven or anything or ghosts or whatever, but I'm confused like will I still be able to think concious thought? I guess not, 'cause my brain won't work, but gah I just don't know. And I don't suppose I care. I want to have fun while I'm still here. I'll think about death some other time :P But no I'm not scared.

Yes and no. It's an inevitability that will catch up to all of us at some stage. Whilst it remains unknown though, there is no point to dwell on it. To dwell on it is to wait for it. I used to dwell on it, and the thought of a limited existance scared me.

I try to think that it could happen anytime, and to use that as an incentive rather than something that should stop me in my tracks. Live every day as best you can. Go to bed thinking 'I did everything I could've today'. Other people have effects on our lives and it effects our feelings and emotions. We may go to bed upset or frustrated, but as long as you've conducted what you can control in the right way, the way that makes you happy, then you're living life the right way and that's all that matters.

I've lived like since about December, and I've felt good. I'm always feeling better, and i'm no longer afraid really.

That's pointless. You were never a conscious being until you were born.
