Did your offer say conditional on a 2:1? I'm wondering if as of the time you applied, you expected a 2:1 and your referees agreed, you still need to finish with one.

Second, being that you passed the EAC obviously, one option might be doing a Masters in Economics, at which point classification in the first degree is irrelevant. I'm not sure Birkbeck will accept a 2:2 but you never know if you apply early and have very strong recommendations.

Third, I'm aware they occasionally offer EO roles such as Economic Researcher to people who miss out narrowly for some reason. With 17.41 in your FSAC, which is a fantastic score for an analytical role, you may be considered.

Have you spoken to them and have they said definitely no? I don't think it's definitely all over for you.

Hey, I'm a final year undergraduate student in the middle of my exams... I don't know my classification yet but I've had some disastrous exams and did badly the last two years. I don't have an official offer yet as I was going to do my departmental visit in June, so I don't "know" its reliant on a 2:1, but this is what it said during the application process.

Secondly, I'm a statistician not an economist!! But, maybe the same things apply... I know that there are "statistical officer" roles too. Financially, there is no way I can afford a masters. I was supposed to be doing an integrated masters here at Warwick but I dropped down to the BSc when I got told I passed the FSAC.

Thanks for your help etc though!!!! I just suck at exams, to be honest, which is a shame because I'm pretty good at statistics!

Hi nius, I saw this message and thought ooh I better check my progress page and there it was, successful!!

I'm over the moon! I was 4th on the reserve list for NI stream so didnt know for sure whether I would get in but I'm so pleased!

I am just printing the forms at the moment. I presume we have to wait for forms 5 and 6 coming in the post before we send them all back?

Very excited! Do you have any idea how long the whole thing takes before NICS get in contact with us?

Yay! Glad you made it too crazychick!! Not sure about having to wait for forms 5 & 6? I have to wait for some documentation to come across from the US so I have to wait for that anyway (spent more than 2 months overseas). If I was you I'd probably just wait for the forms as it can't take them that long to get from London to here...at least I hope not!

No idea about when NICS will contact us...it said on the website that it will be 'soon' - a tad vague perhaps! Oh well, as long as I'm in I'm happy enough! Congrats!

Congratulations to all on NI reserve list who have got through! I was starting to think I wouldn't get in and have to go through the whole process again. Very relieved to be through!

So now we know the departments as well. Cool. Have you figured out what your first choice would be?

I will choose based on location primarily. I am not sure where each Departmental choice is based. I would like to be able to commute from where I live now if at all possible.

If I had a pure preference it would be for the Treasury. However if that requires working in London I am unlikely to express it as a preference.

    Where are you commuting from?

    Treasury is definitely London only.

I think it is very likely that there will be no Treasury roles for TiB outside London, considering that HMT staff are concentrated at Whitehall. HMT does have a small number of staff outside London though.

I met a TiBer from DfE who said that for her department, they are quite flexible about where you are located, and unless your role for instance needs you to be in London or some other place, 2-3 times a week, they will accommodate locating you where they've got an office.

DfID is located in both London and Glasgow. They may not be able to accommodate you outside of those two locations (within the UK).

Up Norf. I know DfE and DWP have placements here. I'll find out about the rest come June 11th I suppose!

Very jealous of all you TiBbers going to the open day on the 11th (and starting this summer). I'm now officially deferred for a year, so will be going through all this in a year's time

You were granted a deferral? Do you mind if I ask what for?

I ask since I was considering asking for one but assumed I'd be highly unlikely to get it!

I can say with certainty that HMT will want their Tibbers in London. They only have a small IT department.

You're right about DfE - they are more flexible than most. DfID may be located in London and Glasgow, but their IT department is in Glasgow - all the DfID tibbers are based there.
