Re: Physiotherapy: 2012 entryI've been looking for some books to read! Do you have any suggestions? :](Original post by sas25)
very true.. have you done any extra reading and put it in you're personal statement, like physio books or research papers? -
Re: Physiotherapy: 2012 entry
Well, i did ring some of the uni's to see if they suggest me read anything and they didn't really give me a lot to work with lol.. they just started explaining what i need to put in my personal statement (e.g. what i think physio is about/work experience etc) ..
you could try the CSP magazine, frontline
yeh i see what you mean that would be good to put in
-
Re: Physiotherapy: 2012 entryYou can get frontline on the CSP's website through this link http://www.csp.org.uk/news-events/frontline-magazine(Original post by emilym94)
I'm a 2012 physio applicant too!!
Nottingham is my fave so far...
Do any of you guys know how to get hold of the CSP magazine? Do you have to be a member of the CSP to get one, or are they available to buy or download online?

Re: Physiotherapy: 2012 entry
Hiya fellow physio applicants!
I got 4 A's in Biology, History, English Language and Psychology at AS, and i'm dropping English Language.
I'm still not 100% sure about whether i'm going for Law or Physio, I really want some work experience but I live in the middle of nowhere.. I've applied for every hospital in my county and surrounding counties but it's old school nepotism when they tell me I can only go there if I know someone in the department - thanks, great help. I do have one place that's giving me a half day and then allowing me to apply, but I have no clue how far away it'll be..
Like some people Physio only became a firmer option recently, but I applied straight away for work experience - it's just taken 2 months for even one of the hospitals to reply, and I'm running out of time.. Even private practices are finding it difficult to fit me in because they want to get a day of people who wouldn't mind me being there...
As for where to go I've been more concentrating on the course at the moment, but I'm going on an open day to Bournemouth soon.
I know universities won't be keen on me if I don't have experience, but if I have it lined up will they not dismiss me straight away? -
Re: Physiotherapy: 2012 entry
Welcome, and well done on your results

Were all having trouble with experience, just have to persist. The unis do understand that its difficult so dont mind if its only a day or two. Im on a waiting list atm for hospital experience so I decided to do and extended project into the role of physiotherapists in strokes to show further research (and because Im interested)
If you can get other care related experience, eg care home, that should help too. Im not sure of the last question as im wondering the same thing. -
Re: Physiotherapy: 2012 entry
thank you
all the hard work paid off!
Your extended project idea seems really interesting, when I go back i'll ask about how to do one etc and see if I can think of anything physiotherapy relevant..
My friend works at a care home and said she can help me get volunteer work there so i'm planning on doing that at some point, It's just so frustrating how difficult it is to get the experience at a hospital! I got a call back from the law firm I called yesterday and they said they'd love to have me - if only physio work experience was that easy!
I emailed the hospital i'm going to for the half-day and they said it would be beneficial to put it on my application that I have experience lined up, so there we go! I don't know if anybody else has heard any different, but i'll just go on that for now
edit: turns out its very promising that i'll be able to get some work experience with an english speaking physio in Finland! Hope that might show them i'm dedicated lolLast edited by whitesky; 01-09-2011 at 19:25. -
Re: Physiotherapy: 2012 entry
Hi
Im a 19 year old irish student applying.
Iv actually been really lucky here in Ireland and arranged loads of experience from emailing, phoning and sending letters to lots of different places!
So far, iv got 1 day in the Public Hospital a half hour away, also iv got 2 days in the smaller public hospital in the city aswell!
a private hospital in the same city is also giving me a day.
The sports surgery clinic (private sports hospital) in Dublin is giving me a day and im going there wednesday!
the national rehab hospital has me on a waiting list.
Last week I attended a day course in understanding mental health and the providers are a group who deal with disabled children. They have offered me shadowing with there physio every week until I would go to the UK next year.
Furthermore, Iv sorted experience with 3 private physios, 2 sports therapists, a nursing home, Connacht and Munster Rugby teams and the Brothers of Charity (intellectual disability group).
I hope that all of this will stand to me in my application.
Has anybody started reading anything?
Today I bought a couple of books fairly cheap on ebay!
However,
Iv already covered most anatomy/physiology etc. as im almost finished sports therapy!
Wheres most peeps applying to?
Patrick
