Household brands. Not sure whether its the name or a type such as a SpreadSheet, Word Processor. etc. Google should have the answer.

Any software solution that is not tailor-made for the problem. Like a company that needs a database could either get a software company to make one for them or just use Microsoft Access. In this instance, Access would be generic software and the custom made one bespoke.

Except you can't use the brand name M$ :p:

Generic just means s/w that can do a range of things (it's sometimes called 'general purpose s/w') - word processor is about as good an example as you can get.

A generic software package is one which can be used in a range of cirumstances so like the person above eg a microsoft word document which can be used to write a letter or write a project commpile a cv etc
As above, designed for a general purpose. Widely available, cheap, well tested because of it's widespread-ness, and there'll be more support available if it goes wrong because it's so well know.

Got the exam tomorrow too! Good luck anyone who is doing it.
