How much harder is A2 literature?
Hey!..
well, i got 1 mark off an A for My AS literature grade, and next year we're going to be studying Jane Eyre, Hamlet & Poetry by John Donne.
Ive heard that it will be a of closed text examination, my board is WJEC..
Im worried that my grade will fall, becouse idont know how im gona cope without a copy of the text infront of me in the exam.
& Also, would it be possible to get My Alevel grade to an A*? i dont know how much work that would require.. anyy hellp would be appreciated!
Thanks!! -
Re: How much harder is A2 literature?Really? Ahh well done..!(Original post by eyre2)

& Thanks for the advice guys, but anyone know how much harder it'l be next year?

Re: How much harder is A2 literature?
On AQA I didn't notice much of a difference, but oh dear did that change during the exam. Evidently this was felt by the entire year as one guy who was predicted an A* came out with a U (in the exam), and no-one in our year got higher than a B (again, in the exam).
Last year the majority of people, however, got the results they expected, A's and B's and the such. So yea, from my experience, it got much harder. We did Love Through the Ages on AQA. -
Re: How much harder is A2 literature?
I did my Literature A Level with AQA so I can't comment on other exam boards but I actually found A2 easier than AS. It was challenging and required a lot of wider reading but I was prepared for it because I worked hard at AS.
There is definitely a jump from AS to A2 but it's nowhere near as big as the jump from GCSE to AS so as long as you worked hard during your AS year (and it sounds as though you did), you should be fine and should have the skills you need to tackle A2. Good luck, and enjoy it!

thanks. yep same books. but i do english lit combined with language so i also do other things to. ?
Great, Maybe we can exchange notes further into the year?.. Would be good to see some new perspectives
where abouts are you from anyway? -
Re: How much harder is A2 literature?I've just finished my WJEC AS Literature too! I also hate the fact that it's a closed text exam, but at the end of the day it just means we have to put in plenty of time memorising quotes. Just write important ones (that cover a range of themes) onto sticky notes and place them around your house when you come to revision. It worked like a charm for my GCSE exam. ;](Original post by Coolkat)

An A* means you have to get an A overall (so average of 80% between AS and A2) and 90% at A2. If it makes you feel better, even if someone got full marks in their AS they'd still need 180/200 at A2 for the A*. That's the same number of marks that you need for the A*, so you've got nothing holding you back this year providing you step up your game.& Also, would it be possible to get My Alevel grade to an A*? i dont know how much work that would require.. anyy hellp would be appreciated!

Re: How much harder is A2 literature?
A2 level English Literature is difficult, but by no means impossible. I had good marks in my coursework both years, but my AS exams and A2 January exam were very poor (Cs and Ds). I resat them all and managed to seriously boost my grades and eventually got an A. With your grades, there is nothing to worry about.

exam was hard? I came out crying in this years one, might as well next year!!!

loving 'love through the ages' though- Oscar Wilde is legend. -
Re: How much harder is A2 literature?Oh no! I don't want to freak you out! I came out crying this year too, but I got a B- a little disappointing, but the best in the year, those who felt it went okay were the ones who ended up failing.(Original post by Forget that)

But if you think about it, it must have only been our school who messed up as otherwise the grade boundaries would have been lower, and clearly they weren't. I think it is has more to do with the teaching at our school, rather than the exam itself.
For the exam I would say just make it sound like you've read EVERYTHING even if you haven't, that's where I went wrong. But, for sure, do as much Wider Reading as possible, again, I don't think I did at all.
I'm sure it'll go fine! Sorry for freaking you out! -

Re: How much harder is A2 literature?
A2 seems so hard for next year the courswork alone is making me want to die
I got a C in the exam (AQA) :/ when predicted B/A so will be resitting that, but have decided to keep the subject on
The books i am going to be studying are
The Bloody Chamber
Dracula
Macbeth
Wuthering Heights
Then for courseowkr i decided to do feminism in 'She Walks in beauty' by Byron and 'The scarlet letter' by hawthorne, anyone else doing these texts?
Then for the other coursework i decided to do either female fcharacters or villains in pride and prejudice and rossetti poetry -
Re: How much harder is A2 literature?
With WJEC I think it's more the workload increases significantly. I'm doing the A2 course this September but we started it before we broke up for summer. When I mean workload, last year we only had four texts whereas this year we have 6. There's also a lot of contextual knowledge needed as I'm pretty sure you get marks for that in the exam as well as critics opinions. My teachers happened to pick texts from around three or four different centuries, so for me, and perhaps you depending on what texts you're doing, there's a lot of historical, social and political background information to learn to gain a greater understanding of the texts as well. Just remember the coursework's worth 40% overall so try get as high a mark as possible in that.

Re: How much harder is A2 literature?
I've heard that it's more focused on analysis than external critical interpretations but i'm not so sure
The coursework seems like it's going to be a lot more challenging but i'm on OCR sooo...
But i'm also hoping to try my hardest to get an A* at A-level, i've read all my texts and made some notes on some already so fingers-crossed this year goes well for both of us!

Ive read all my texts too, and analysed most of the poetry by myself.. Hopefully this would give me a good headstart!
I really want an A too.. What did you get at AS/? -
