Is it normal to be put in single sex accomodation?

Hi, I've been put in Ranmoor at Sheffield University and I got told over the phone that I'm in a flat of 8 where we're all boys.... I was quite surprised as I didn't request single sex accomodation and I thought most flats were mixed at uni.

I'm not sure whether I like this or not haha, so I was just wondering if Sheffield normally do this, and what people's experience of it is?

The majority of flats in Sheffield Uni accommodation are single sex! It's ridiculous.

And why I got negged for stating this is beyond me...

Yes, and it wasn't a good experience. I transferred to another accommodation, still single-sex, but luckily I had more in common with them.
And yes it is odd, I don't know any other university that does this!

How come it wasn't a good experience?

I think it'll be easier for me as I am a boy, I think boys tend to get along better in singles sex situations haha!

Didn't really click with of them, fair bit of bitchiness and also had their drunken friends bang on my door at 3am the night before an exam...
I think boys do have it easier in general though!

It is a bit odd, but I'm sure it isn't all that bad in most cases. The blocks aren't single sex, just the flats. So it should be okay, you still get to socialise with those of the opposite sex :P

I think I've been put in a flat of girls but then I think there's a guys one opposite us
Yeah, I was gutted when I realised it was single sex when I started last year, as I normally get on better with guys!

I was in a flat of 6 girls in Lawrencefield, but it turned out to be properly immense, best girls I've ever met. But it's just luck of the draw, really.
