Re: Welsh SocietyMoan about prejudices towards the Welsh? ..... Gotcha. ;D
I remember arguing with my teacher in year 8 about doing my Welsh GCSE. I was telling her that it wasn't a requirement for any job I wanted to do and that most people in Wales spoke English anyway....I got detention
Even though I'm Welsh, speak fluent Welsh and have lived in Wales most of my life, I can't help thinking it isn't really needed to do anything cool, like mandarin for example but don't think people should stop speaking it, I speak to my mates in Welsh sometimes, but it always seems to be in a hybrid welsh-english language and when we're making fun of something. Dunno why, but it's rare I ever have a serious convo in Welsh

Re: Welsh Society
Is he seriously comparing the Welsh language to Klingon?

Also saying the Welsh language is a dying language is a complete lie. If anything, surely the language is growing with it being compulsory in schools.
On a slightly different note, I'm curious to know why you've got a Union Flag next to your location now? I thought being an independence supporter you'd hate that flag and what it stands for?
-
Re: Welsh SocietyI changed it because come september I'll be studying in either England or Scotland. I don't hate the UK, I actually support it and in its current state I wouldn't advocate independence. I think I'll only truly advocate it if Scotland leaves.(Original post by Aek-94)

Re: Welsh SocietyOh right, I just wondered. On that subject actually, I think Scotland will vote for independence, and would be shocked if they didn't. But in the hypothetical scenario that they didn't vote to be independent then maybe a federal setup for the UK should be considered.(Original post by Gales)

Okay, politics rant over.

Re: Welsh SocietyI don't think it will, but either way, I hope the vote is very decisive. If not, we'll end up having 'neverendums' like in Quebec.(Original post by Aek-94)

Re: Welsh SocietyOh yes Québec. I'm pretty sure the result of their referendum was something like 51% No, 49% Yes? That would just plague the UK's political system with constant talk of independence if we ended up with a result like that for years to come.(Original post by Gales)

Speaking of Québec, my course at Aber come September will allow me to do a student exchange there in my second year if I wish. I really hope I get to do it because it would be a great experience, and Montréal looks beautiful.

Re: Welsh SocietyI was waiting for them to PM me, like they said they would. Haven't received any PM!(Original post by Aek-94)
Does anyone know what happened to the push for a Plaid Cymru party in the TSR HoC? -
Re: Welsh SocietyI remember Metrobeans (I think it was?) PM-ing me saying that he'd handed the party's creation over to Admin to approve/reject it. But there's been nothing yet...(Original post by Gales)

Re: Welsh SocietyI bought my tickets yesterday. It's a great lineup this year.(Original post by Miracle Day)
So erm.. anyone want to come with me to the Summertime Ball :-(
-
Re: Welsh SocietyHaha, mine are the same.(Original post by Miracle Day)
I really want to go, but I can't convince anyone to come with me lol -.-
All my friends are rockfags!
If you buy tickets now, I'm sure closer to the Ball you'll get people wanting to come with you. That's what happened with me anyway at the Jingle Bell Ball back in December. -
Re: Welsh SocietyI only have enough for one. How long is it until you think they'll be sold out and what are the ticket prices? 60 pounds?(Original post by Aek-94)

My tickets cost £82 each, but I'm sure there's cheaper ones available.

Re: Welsh Society
TSR Plaid Cymru hasn't been approved.

This was posted in the other thread;
To follow up, this was discussed at the meeting with Admin last Sunday and it was decided not to approve the usergroup and sub-forum for the time being. This doesn't mean a definite no forever, but it's more a case of waiting to see if you guys contribute to the MHoC first. So basically, the more you debate our bills, start petitions etc, the more chance of the party being approved in the future.
Going forwards, it was also agreed that the approach to forming new parties will be Speaker/Mod/Admin discretion and rather than 10 members with over 3 months/150 posts, we'll be looking for anywhere between 5-10 members, but members who can demonstrate their commitment to the MHoC by contributing to debates and starting petitions.
