What are these residentials? I haven't heard anything about them... x
I don't know much about it tbh, I spoke to a man called Rob on the phone when I got my offer and he gave me some key dates, said I would be starting work 5th Sep, then the week of 10th going to Birmingham for a residential week. But that's all I know, it hasn't been mentioned since. Maybe you will be told at a later date, or you don't have to go? x

Edit- I did a quick google and found this, you probably just haven't been told about it yet because it says that trainees on every scheme go to either Manchester University or Birmingham University http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/schools/...rogrammes.aspx

Has anyone doing finance got their offers?

If so what is the £ and banding?

    Thanks
The salary is the same for every scheme £22,222, you get more money if you work in London though. It's band 5, well that's what I'm guessing because band 5 is around 21k to 27k.

This thread is so quiet compared to previous years! I've been trying to find out more information about the scheme, but it's proving to be quite difficult. Hopefully they will send us some more information soon.

Oh I didn't realise you get paid more if you're in London, that's good news! I may be able to for the rent now

Yeah it looks like in other years a lot of people were talking about whether to accept their place due to location and things..?

Yeah you get a living allowance according to the website. I know in one of the previous threads about the scheme people were saying it was for London and possibly the South East. Are you having to relocate for the scheme?

Well I live on the outskirts of London, so could commute...but I would quite like a good excuse to live in London cos I love it! I'll just see how it works out I reckon... you are relocating right? when do you think you'll have to start sorting houses and stuff out?

Yeah, unfortunately it looks like I'll have to move. I'd rather have stayed at home though for financial and personal reasons, but it is too good of an opportunity to turn down. I have no idea, I was just looking at the type of accommodation you can get in the counties I have picked (even though I know I may not be placed there) and they all want huge deposits like £500+ even though they are flat/house shares. I don't know how I'm going to afford that before getting paid. It's stressing me out quite a bit to be honest!

God that's a bit of a joke! You should ask the NHS whether they'll give you any advanced payments, I know when I worked in government before they would do things like that and take it out of your pay check afterwards.

Or there are also websites were you can just move in with a family for the week, like Sunday to Thursday and pay them rent but there's often no deposit or anything and it's quite a bit cheaper and also obviously bills, internet etc is all sorted. I think it's called something like mondaytofriday.com. Maybe even if you did it for a while until you got some money together for a deposit and figured out where you want to live...

    Hi All,

I'm GM in the South West and seem to remember being told about the residential in Birmingham, which makes sense seeing as the PGDip is based at Birmingham Uni.
I've had a couple of chats with some trainees who were on the scheme a few years ago and now seem to be doing rather well for themselves, and it seems like we'll have four 6 month placements, the last of which was an elective during their time, and trainees can choose to leave the scheme from the April of the second year in order to apply for permanent jobs, presumably to stem the flow of trainees job hunting.
More than anything, everyone I've spoken to about the scheme seems to really love their jobs which I think is one of the things i'm really hoping for too!

Finally, as a life long southerner, £500 + for a deposit sounds about normal- usually its one months rent as deposit and a months rent in advance.

Considering applying to the NHS grad scheme when I graduate, was wondering what type of questions they ask, and how did you guys reply?

They ask mostly competency based questions but give you a lot of information beforehand as to how to prepare. I'm sure it's different each year though.

Is everyone still expecting to hear which hospital they will be based in tomorrow? excited!

I'm excited too! I hope I get somewhere fairly close to home so I can visit easily on weekends.

I'll be in London, so I very much doubt I'd be able to afford a place of my own. Besides, since I've never lived in London before I'm looking forward to flat-sharing and making some new friends.

Yeah I'm going to flat share as well, just saves money and like you say you can make some new friends that way. Would be rather lonely living completely on your own as well!

Facebook has been updated again. Looks like most of us should know where we are going to be by 5PM today. If we are lucky, we may even receive our contracts in the post tomorrow.

I just found out I'm based in Oxleas - I'm really pleased as it seems like they've really looked at my previous experience and interests before deciding Has anyone else heard? and are you pleased?

The only thing about mine is I was hoping to live at home but it is definitely based too far for me to commute from
