Will Unis in Northern Ireland have rise in applicants next year due to the fees?

Hello

As you must be aware by now, for Sept 2012 entry onwards to university, students from Northern Ireland who chose to study in the mainland will have to pay tuition fees of £9000 per year.

Students from Northern Ireland who study at university in Northern Ireland from 2012 onwards will not pay £9000 tuition fees but will pay fees of slighly more than £3000 per year, ie the 'old' system.

I read in a BBC article last week, that every year, around 30% of students from NI who go to university go to university in the mainland.

Do you think, due to the facts Ive written above, that unis in NI will be even harder to get into from 2012 onwards, due all NI students wanting to go to either UU or QUB, and no-one from NI will apply to mainland unis, due to the huge tuition fees difference?

Thanks, Im curious to know what people think will happen
Well we need to consider the number of students each year who travel to england/wales/scotland to study who will now chose to stay at home and if that would be possibly offset by the number of students who travel from england/scotland/wales who chose to travel to N Ireland to study, however it is possible we have had more leaving N Ireland in the past than we have had coming in so it is a possibility.
Some people from here HAVE to move away for uni, not all courses are available over here. For instance I don't think you can do veterinary over here
