Only just blagged my way to predicted grades of BBB, is it still worth applying to exeter and newcastle who are asking AAB-ABB? I know if i get an offer i WILL get those grades. My school, however, is not convinced. They have toldl me not to bother applying but there is nowhere else that appeals to me. Would you still apply or not?

Still apply! There's nothing stopping yah
My predicted grades are ABD and I'm still applying to Newcastle. Give it a pop. Nothing lost, nothing gained, if you don't get an offer. And if you do, that's fab

I'd say still apply, but make sure you have some backups chosen anyway! You'll never know unless you try.

    Sent off my UCAS today!
Officially applied for bio at Oxford, Sheffield, Nottingham and Manchester.
I went for the 3 and the 4 year at Sheffield (after ringing the admissions tutor).

So now I guess it's the waiting game...

I may be worth applying if you have a realistic chance of getting in. What were your AS grades and what subjects were they in? Maybe get the person whose writing your reference to mention any resits your taking so they know an A may be realistic

    I am applying for:

    Bangor University - Biomedical Sciences
University of Kent - Biomedical Sciences
    Lancaster University - Biomedical Science
University of Liverpool - Biological Sciences
University of Liverpool - Biological and Medical Sciences

I have completed A levels in Biology, Chemistry, Geography and the Welsh BAC and sent the UCAS to my school the other day I am so keen to start getting offers because I'm on a gap year and waiting another year to go to university is so difficult so fingers crossed!! :P The places I really want to go to are Liverpool and Lancaster!

Finally got college to predict me an A in biology! (after weeks of nagging) Just hoping UCL or Imperial will give me a chance now.
So, applying with AAAa + EPQ now (chem, bio, geology, classics). Not got great GCSE's AAAABBBBBC and an illness related resit year + bad grades.
Applying to: UCL, Imperial, Royal Holloway, Leeds and possibly Queen Mary's (rethinking that one)
What do you think my chances are? I think the resit year is going to be a massive pain even with surgery notes etc. :s

I think you should have a pretty good chance. I'm not an expert about resit years, but since you have extenuating circumstances I'm sure they'd understand!
And it probably will be annoying having to prove your circumstances, but it'll be worth it if you get in!

    What do you think?

Should I take General Biology or Ecology and Biodiversity?

I am mostly interested in studying about Animals and Plants.

If you know you would prefer to focus on animals and plants then I'd say do ecology and biodiversity! Most courses have a common first year in biology, so you could probably swap from one to the other anyway.

Straight biology may give you more opportunity to study exactly which modules you like

I still have a year before deciding, leaning on ecology right now though.

Biological sciences at Durham has a standard first year for everyone then you can pick and choose what you want, like what's shown on the link.

There'll probably be similar layouts at other universities too if you have any ideas of where you wanna go.

    straight biology.

I've met many professional biologists (ie they work in a biology research lab) who did specialised courses such as ecology and marine biology who've said that with hindsight they wish that they'd done straight biology then specialised later.

That's one sweet program, but I'll be studying at New Zealand between Auckland U and VUW.

Some people around told me in general doing an Undergraduate degree would be better in a general course, then specialize later post-graduate, doesn't only go for Biology, probably so that my choices of career are wider in a general course than a specialized course?

I have! Just sent my application. It is the only university that I've applied to that I haven't been able to visit. Can you tell me a bit more about its location and the general campus please?

    Thanks
