Hi, just wandering if anyone had applied for biology with only biology as their science at A level? Is it compulsory to have chemistry or maths too? Because I'm doing bio, chem, French and rs at the moment for AS and was planning on dropping chemistry?

It depends on the course, some need you to have it to at least AS and I think they prefer it to A2 but it's not necessary. At Durham, you have to do a catch-up module in the first year if you don't have chemistry but that's all

Good choice, I might be seeing you there
Although I just got an offer for Bath so I need to visit there before I decide..

My older sister did a zoology degree, personally I've no idea which area of Biology I want to go into yet
out of interest did your sisters zoology degree help her get zoology related jobs?

Not really. It did get her a well paying job with an environment agency, but something to do with waste disposal. She was qualified & liked enough within the company to be able to move into the conservation department but there weren't any openings. Recentl she's decided she wants to be a vet nurse so now she's training for that.
Saying that, she's not really looked for jobs outside of Sheffield since she's settled there with her boyfriend& their puppy She did get accepted to do a Masters at Bristol uni but decided she didn't want to do it.

It has been quite difficult for me too.
A levels are going well though, I'm just looking forward to getting A2 started and a routine going again (I return this Friday! ). My work experience is decent, spent some time at a cell biology lab and did some volunteering. How is yours going? (:
    Hi MissBotastic,

I am trying to get as much work experience as possible in the hope that it will help me get into one of my preferred uni's for a masters course. Would u mind me asking how u got the opportunity to work in a cell biology lab? And where abouts?

    Thanks

Don't seem to be too many Marine Biologists here, but I will be studying BSc Marine and Freshwater Biology with a Foundation Year, at the University of Hull in September.

    Really excited

Hey! Anyone considering going Glasgow for zoology? Trying to get more info on how the course outline is like (website seems rather vague). So far, I'd say Exeter looks exciting especially with the field course in the 3rd year!

I was rejected by Glasgow unfortunately. In the end, I went for UCL, there are field courses on environmental biology and environmental genetics in UCL too!

No, not yet, I just checked the module details online I'm going to study human genetics/genetics, as you have a few specialized pathways to choose from for UCL's biosci degree. I'm going to there this coming Sept.

Yea I saw that u can specialize in zoology if you were to go for the bioscience degree as well in some other unis. Just not too sure if I would want to study zoology in a big city like London really (though I have a few seniors studying there, will be visiting the city in sep btw am sure I'd love the place though ). Looking at scotland too well regardless all the best for your course!
