'Engineered anti-cancer virus' shows promise

An engineered virus, injected into the blood, can selectively target cancer cells throughout the body in what researchers have labelled a medical first.

The virus attacked only tumours, leaving the healthy tissue alone, in a small trial on 23 patients, according to the journal Nature.

Researchers said the findings could one day "truly transform" therapies.

There's a lot of buzz about this, many think that in the near future this could become a medical breakthrough of huge magnitude.

Living in the future is awesome!

Fantastic, nice transitory tech before we can get nanites. Can't wait, hopefully it can be done cheap enough to benefit a lot of people as well

I don't mind, I'd quite like to live out the I am legend storyline. Just need to know in advance when to lock the windows so I don't fall in the first wave.
Well it's about time.

Now can we please start to focus on Alzheimers, Dementia, Parkinson's, Hutchinson's, et al?

Damn! You got there first :P

I welcome this advance. However, perhaps we should stock up on canned goods and shotguns just in case? In case some kind of super-cancer develops that can chase and infect people...

I have an over-active imagination....
