I LOVE THIS! so much easier for me to get in contact with international applicants!

i'd like to get some help on my uni choices!
    so frustrating!

Predicted A* A* A a (Math, Chem, Bio, Literature resp.)
    UKCAT average 670
    good enough extra curricular

    thinking of newcastle, nottingham, southampton
i wanted sheffield but kinda backed down due to the high ukcat cut off score

any other schools would fit me?

oh and yeah, i am from malaysia!

    Hi guys,
I am also from Singapore and applying as an international student at the end of this year for matriculation in 2013 due to NS.
I am applying for Kings, Barts, Imperial and UCL. However, I am worried about whether I will fit the bill and even be chosen for the interviews. Are UKCAT scores of 705 good? My VB pulled my scores down because I scored 580.
You're confident of being able to take leave to fly to the UK huh. Lucky guy. I think with your results you should qualify for an interview (provided your PS is decent). I guess now you just have to focus on the BMAT since you're applying to 2 BMAT unis. Best of luck with that

And.. why is it that there are so many NS applicants who are medics as well. You guys are lucky to get a related vocation lol.

Sime Darby sponsors school fees for medicine too? Never knew that, thought it would always be JPA Have you decided on your last choice yet? I'm Malaysian and applying for 2012 cycle too!

yea, they did for him. i think he's amongst the last to get it, i think sime darby's gonna stop sending medic students though. a lot of sponsors in malaysia are stopping their medic scholarship programmes D:

havent yet! though i'm looking at liverpool now, we'll see, gotta discuss with my dad.

    Kota Kinabalu You?

I'm not doing A levels though I'm studying the Australian high school qualification but most unis still accept it anyway, phew!

My choices are Liverpool, Bristol, Kings and still undecided about the last one. Probably East Anglia/Leeds . Got quite a bad ukcat (avg 630) so I had to choose them more carefully. Thank god for TSR lol or I would have probably applied to unis that rejected me straightaway based on ukcat :P

Yea I really like Liverpool too! And I reckon I'd enjoy PBL more than lectures. So you're studying A levels in KL now?

yea, true. PBL sounds like it'll challenge you to think on your feet, which is a good thing for doctors i think. lol, nope, far from it, i'm in kyuem in perak, its rly in the middle of nowhere. but a really good a-level college

Hey guys, this is kind of a stupid question but... If I graduate with a UK medical degree, will I be able to practise in the UK? (I'm not a UK resident or anything, I just have a Hong Kong passport.) I know I can probably apply for a visa/work permit or something like that, but does anyone know how long those are effective for, or if they're easy to get? I've tried researching online but the UKCISA website is confusing
I believe you are good till foundation year 1 but getting a visa afterwards is pretty hard. However, there is no problem in specialization like if u want to specialize as a neurosurgeon: you will be considered equal to a UK home applicant as opposed to in undergrad where there are quotas.

Thanks! I am very lucky and relieved to get a vocation which is related to the healthcare field. The experience is also great! Being able to go home everyday and getting the opportunity to observe doctor's consultations for one and a half years is amazing.

I hope I do well for my BMAT though. In fact, I am very confused about what topics are tested in BMAT. I hope I do get accepted into Imperial.

How about you? Are you already a medical student there?

    Where are you applying to?
Not decided yet. I'm considering Birmingham.

Oh okay. So do you intend to go back to Canada to practise? I wouldnt mind practicing back in Hong Kong but there's a conversion exam which is apparently very difficult to pass
Okay here's the thing. I can apply for a British PR after 3 years in Britain... I think. After that, I plan to get a British citizenship so that I can pratice there. I just feel the service the patients are getting is far better in terms of quality than the healthcare patients receive here in Canada.

And yes, I've heard about the conversion exam in HK. but I guess it's same in every country. Canada as well, it's very hard to get a residency spot there, as they consider us as "international applicants" when I clearly have a Canadian citizenship.
