I think the whole thing is a pretty disgusting affair tbh. I wouldn't apply. Celebrity academics providing a second rate education at really silly prices.

I was going to, but then I realised that I couldn't be bothered. Plus I want to read history, not history with literature
Ahahahah I almost forgot about that car crash of a college

If anybody on TSR applies, I am genuinely interested in it

lool everyones replies are so negative. I guess that college is a flop then. Please elaborate on what is so bad about it? My main qualms are that its selling standard London degrees for triple the price, plus where on earth is it gonna find a decent college building in north london?

I need more replies people

I predict that lots of international students are going to apply to it (if NCH markets itself well).
They don't do maths, oh dear :colone:

Most of the TSR hate probably comes from the fact it's brand new and has not even started teaching yet so none of you can even form an opinion on it as of yet, and it will always come down to "prestige", but looking at the lineup it has some pretty interesting people teaching there, so you can only wait and see.

Jesus, and people call me a cynical bastard. That said looking at some of the reports trickling in so far at how it's been set out, it just seems like a money grab.

it advertises on TSR, along with LSBU and university of west london, says alot...
Two of my mates were planning on applying. Till they realised prices were like 20k a year... not only that, + it would be nothing like a top uni. Lecturers would come and go as they pleased with no real obligation to stay, a just give a sub, it's definitely not an Oxbridge substitute, I can't think of anyone who'd rather choose it over a top 10 uni. :/

It's been criticised by people a lot more qualified that the likes of TSR users. Almost everybody thinks it will be a complete fail. Look it up.

It's precisely because they're using brand names of lecturers to attract people. If it didn't have those people (who let's be honest, aren't going to be particularly better than the average lecturers at actually teaching) then you wouldn't at all give it any credit. It's also because of the high prices they're charging, and that they actually advertised themselves as being for Oxbridge rejects.

It's going to be filled with rich oxbridge/london/etc rejects, and it's going to be very small and thus I imagine quite a restricted social scene.
The academics there are famous and opinionated, rather than necessarily brilliant, and as far as teaching and examining they are completely untried and untested. And I very much doubt that much of your teaching will be done by the famous academics that are publicising it, what with their need to maintain their fame and riches.

Yes I was shocked when I saw this too. They broke the cardinal "Top unis never advertise" rule.

This is very true. If said rah was so thick that not even Eton could get him/her into Oxbridge/London then they can always pay their way into a made-up London college.

Tbh it is sad that they didn't see the opportunity to make another normal-fee addition to the London colleges. They could of bought up the Bedford square buildings, filled them with a college specialising in humanities (the humanities version of Imperial) and called it New College London (that's a nice name) which would give out the usual London degree (possibly moving onto it's own degree awarding powers if it builds its rep enough) Result, prestigious uni with a nice little campus and it would take the strain off the other colleges (which are heavily oversubscribed)
freaking 18000pounds for one year?
no thanks.
