Hardest and Easiest A Levels Thread
Discussion for A-Level students and for those choosing their A-Level subjects.

Re: Hardest and Easiest A Levels ThreadTrue, dat. It usually depends what you've got the most passion for!(Original post by tommm)
It's a silly topic to debate, it depends entirely on the person. I'd probably find stuff like Art and Drama the hardest, and Maths and sciences the easiest. Others would find the exact opposite, just based on their personal fortés. -
Re: Hardest and Easiest A Levels ThreadWhat exam board were you on? If you were on OCR can you list some of those difficult concepts cuz I have demons to face this year(Original post by Kezzi)
Definitely! I've still got all my A-Level notes and there's easily 3x more Chemistry than my other three subjects (Physics, Geography and Maths). A lot of the ideas were really hard to understand sometimes, too! D:

Re: Hardest and Easiest A Levels Thread
I did maths, further maths, physics, chemistry and German to AS, and out of those, I'd say I found further maths hardest and German easiest.
You can't really talk about anything other than individuals though - people have their own specific talents and weaknesses. -
Re: Hardest and Easiest A Levels ThreadI was on Edexcel (which was one of the easier syllabuses, but it was still killer) - but most of them share the same concepts I think. I personally found it hard to get my head around all the enthalpy and acidity equations (despite being good at Maths I just couldn't visualise what was going on), and others found understanding orbitals and bonding pretty difficult. It's just the fact that you have to try and picture things that you can't see actually happening! :')(Original post by LifeIsGood)

Re: Hardest and Easiest A Levels Thread
Depends. I would say physics is easy, and usually chemistry is similar, and biology too. Let me explain: you can usually get an A in a physics module with ~60% raw marks, similar for chemistry. Usually you can get full UMS whilst dropping quite a few raw marks.
Maths boundaries are much higher; full UMS is usually for full raw marks, perhaps 1 or 2 less.
Essay subjects are a nightmare because you could get an idiot of an examiner who marks you down to say a D, and then on a remark you get an A. It's basically like a grade lottery, no matter how good you really are.
Material wise I would probably say the sciences are harder - but to well in them is easier, if that makes sense. -
Re: Hardest and Easiest A Levels Thread
You gotta remember that grade boundaries aren't fixed and so if the exam ends up being an absolute mare, the ones who did better will still get their 'A' and vice-versa for the U-grade candidates.
It all depends on the motivation & work ethic of the entire group of people taking a certain subject. The reason that Maths, Further, Phys, Chem, Bio get stereotyped as 'hard' is because a good chunk of the people taking them are good independent learners, with a lot of motivation, that are responsible for the grade boundaries being such that a large amount of people get Ds, Es and Us. It's all because of the contrast in the type of people that take the subjects.
It's just down to the people that took science subjects because they 'look good' and got Es, crying about how hard they found it, that people get convinced that those subjects are hellish.
Further Maths & Sciences aren't hard, because they're straightforward subjects, building up on previous knowledge. They're the subjects where goons slip out of that building-up process and end up squealing. Just my two cents - if you disagree, quote me. If you're one of those goons, neg me.
I would personally find essay subjects a nightmare. You're in an exam - you have no idea what you're about to be asked - and after reading the question you've got to build up a whole consistent and fluent argument out of scratch. I would fail... -
Re: Hardest and Easiest A Levels Thread
AS Chemistry was quite difficult, the MCQs required a lot of practice in order to secure 30+/40 (A grade), paper 2 is usually simple and straightforward, the moles questions are usually hard..and the practicals are easy but the moles calculations again require skill (thats where i screwed up) A2 Chemistry is okay, if you study well you score well, if you dont then you are done for..Chemistry is that kind of subject really, you have to take a genuine interest in it or else it is going to be a huge pain in the a** for you.
Physics is okay, not too hard, Maths is easy and scoring if you understand it well, the Mechanics module though is a pain. Economics is extremely easy (i study economics at home, my textbook is my only resource aside from past papers). I have also opted for English Language which is basically creative writing and good writing skills, if you have a decent enough control over the language, you can score well, it barely requires any work. -

Re: Hardest and Easiest A Levels Thread
Hmm, I did Maths, Further Maths, Physics (+ Chemistry and Biology to AS). I'd say Chemistry was my hardest AS (it's the one I did worst in, but I guess I didn't try very hard in it either).
And I'd say physics, for me, was my hardest A2. I found it easy enough to get an A (I hope, still 15 days to go) but an A* is a whole different thing with physics. -
Re: Hardest and Easiest A Levels Thread
just finished A2 (waiting on results)
i did Applied Business at AS, then dropped it, and it is by far the easiest subject i did
for A2, i continued with History, Politics and Economics... all were difficult in their own way
no.1 - Economics, got crazy hard towards the end of it all - like March-July
no.2 - History, the sheer amount you need to know and how to pick out what to use in a huge synoptic essay
no.3 - Politics, easier because it was US politics at a2 which i loved!
i would definately say economics is one of the most difficult a levels out there, along with maths and some of the sciences -
Re: Hardest and Easiest A Levels Thread(Original post by Cavzy)
Im doing Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography.....Are these good choiced? are they difficult?
I 'd say chemistry is the hardest as content wise ,but biology is the hardest i found . Because the exams are very tricky and Mark schemes are very hard ,you need to spend alot of time preparing for exams .
I didn't do Geography or History so can't give advice ! -
Re: Hardest and Easiest A Levels Threadthat's because it is basically the same if you did the econ and business course... I got an A without attending lessons at a level :L and economics for that matter.(Original post by hamburgerandbeans)
I am doing business studies and I am finding it 10 times easier than GCSE which is strange!!
Hardest is probably Biology from what everyone I know tells me (I am not actually doing it)
