I know people who travel from Bideford in North Devon to Exeter College (nearly 40 miles aay) every day. The strange thing is they have a sixth form college in Bideford
Is it because it's a particularly good college or what? I'd rather go to a **** one 5 minutes away and use that extra time to study what hasn't been taught that day O_o

No not to old..one of my brothers went to uni when he was 20/21 and I have a friend who starts uni in a few weeks and will be 20 in oct and many more who were in their early 20s when they started. P.S according to my brothers they have people ranging from their 20s to 50s on their courses so you'll be fine x

It's nothing particularly special. Heck there a few a few nationally renowned grammar schools nearby. It's just quite central and offers many courses that other colleges don't.

Luckily I live in Exeter so it's just up a hill. I wouldn't consider travelling over 10 miles to a school

Nope. There were people at open days that were much older than that and wanting to study environmental degrees. Go for it. If you have the dedication what could go wrong?

Hey! Are you starting a degree course in September? As I'm starting at Reaseheath doing Wildlife Conservation and Ecology Bsc in September, and I'm 20 heading for 21. I've been worried that I'm gona be an old timer starting uni two years after finishing college!

No you will not be too old. The age difference will barely be noticeably unless you wave flag about it.

Think of yourself as a student amongest students who all have different backgrounds and life experiences. It is opportunity to make new friends and develop a whole new perspective regardless of chronological age. Work on what you have in common, you have all chosen to enroll at the same university and maybe even the same course.

In my opinion these types of threads should be banned. They are just ridiculous and add absolutely nothing. If you search this forum you will see hundreds of threads all devoted to the same stupid topic. In this country age discrimination is illegal and nobody will judge you for being "too old" in higher education. Even if you were 90 and wanted to do the course you would still not be "too old" I know a guy of 75 who did a history of art degree and he loved every minute of it.

Please stop asking stupid questions. Age is just a number and to even think it may be a barrier is very sad.

your opinion is of course, perfectly valid.

    as is the OP's

despite a back catalogue of x number of these type of threads, ppls anxieties tend to remain, and they like to ask Qs that may well appear tedious to u but to them, matters.

furthermore, we may well have legislation to counter ageism (or indeed many ism's) but u and i both know that to legislate against summat doesn't deter those with prejudice.

lastly, there's all sorts of ages at uni, that's v true, however, whether one fits in academically is not really the concern here and whilst i wish more thought like 'u' - some of us are worried that they won't.

In fact there are a lots of threads of this ilk such as:

    Does uni prestige matter
    Is the RG everything
Can i get to a top uni with these GCSEs
Anything to do with ex-polys v non expolys and or ranking lists.
    I am worried about halls
Mature student interaction with younger students
Shall I carry on with year 2 as I don't like my subject
Failed first year what shall I do.
    Anything related to age.

A significant percentage, maybe a majority, are started by and contributed to by uni marketing staff, Access HE marketing staff or similar in the guise of Ex, current or potential students. Anyone who thinks all these posts and threads are genuine is naive.

Should they be banned? I would opt for a sticky thread on the topic and the mods moving any new posts into that sticky thread.

I don't know... I think people have genuine worries about these things and just like to have their own thread to talk about their problems. After all, isn't that half the reason people come to these forums, for advice?

If anyone has a problem with this thread just ignore it... the title sort of explains exactly what it is going to be about.

Not at all. With my current plan, I'll be starting uni aged between 22 and 24 and it doesn't bother me.

Of course you'll be too old. By the end of your degree you'll probably be travelling around with a zimmer frame. Is it worth it?

Haha #sarcasm for those that didn't register it.

No your age is fine. Your degree choice is rather exotic haha.
