Glyndŵr University 2012
I'm just wondering if anyone could tell me whether its a good University, friendly atmosphere, good accommodation, and the facilities on campus. Any listed described would be a great help.
Also, is it hard to get On-Campus accomidation for first year students? Or do they get priority?
-
Re: Glyndŵr University 2012its a great university mate with fantastic facilities newer accom is brilliant although expensive around £100 a week older ones a ok but nothing special and abit on the small side if your struggling me and my mates have a house share with a free room which is alot better than anything at uni aswell as cheaper (around £70 inc bills) message me for more details(Original post by PieEatingHorses)

Re: Glyndŵr University 2012It says 2012(Original post by shaunquack)
thats ok no problem i dont blame you i wasthere last year and itwas a laugh i only offered though because with it being mid sept there might not be any spaces left unless youve got one already
! I have yet to even apply!
As in assuming I choose to go to Glyndwr my first year will be in 2012 :P! -
Re: Glyndŵr University 2012I'm going to the Open day in October!(Original post by madders94)
Have you been to the open day today?
I've got my heart set on Glyndwr now, it's not too far from home (2hrs15 minutes by bus straight through) and the course seems like it's absolutely perfect for me. It looks brilliant, go to one of the open days
Then I'm sending my UCAS Application off shortly after that, and IF< I likethe University surroundings, accommodation and so on. Glyndwr will have 2 offers from me!!
The accommodation is a HUGE part for me! -
Re: Glyndŵr University 2012Sorry for the abnormally long reply!(Original post by madders94)
I love Glyndwr. I'm still pretty set on it because everything - the course, the new building for it, the facilities, the accommodation and the fact that I can get home easily - just feels so perfect. Anyone else planning on applying for 2012?
And yes I am, 2012 Social Policy or History
.
How about yourself? -
Re: Glyndŵr University 2012I am, Theatre, Television and Performance because I love the course - it's more vocational which is absolutely what I've been looking for. I know Wrexham well and it's close enough to home for me to go back regularly and for my family and boyfriend to visit regularly too(Original post by PieEatingHorses)

It's definitely going to be my first choice if I get an offer, everything about it just seems too good to be true
where else are you considering?

Re: Glyndŵr University 2012I am from Birmingham So It's quite a way away. My choices are below with the location as well(Original post by madders94)

Glyndwr - History
Glyndwr - Social & Public Policy
Bangor - History & Social Policy
Northampton - History
Aberystwyth - History
Although, Glyndwr University and Bangor are the two which will be my first and second choices assuming I get the offers, and that was a quick reply
!

Re: Glyndŵr University 2012Bangor and Aberystwyth are both absolutely gorgeous towns, but I wasn't keen on the accommodation at Aber. They're my closest unis - I'm about an hour down the coast from Bangor, and an hour and a half up the coast from Aber, but neither of them grabbed me like Glyndwr does.(Original post by PieEatingHorses)

Hehe I tend to reply quickly
I used to live in the West Midlands, not quite Birmingham more Black Country but we moved here when I was little and I love Wales so much, I'm quite keen not to leave

Re: Glyndŵr University 2012
Aber accommodation is fantastic what are you talking about!

And it was the other way around for me, I used to live in Aber actually, and moved here.
As for now IM off to bed. Feel free to message me with a FB / MSN / Skype whatever, I would be happy to talk more.

Re: Glyndŵr University 2012I went to look at Pantycelyn, the Welsh one because I want to carry on speaking Welsh if I go there. It was atrocious. I liked Trefloyne and Rosser though, if I end up going to Aber I definitely want to stay in Rosser because of the en-suites.(Original post by PieEatingHorses)

Re: Glyndŵr University 2012I acctually stayed in Cwrt Mawr, the rooms were extremely clean and of a high standard from what I saw. Space was pretty standard if not slightly bigger, the kitchens was very spacious too, but most universities Kitchens are: D!(Original post by madders94)

Also do you have any idea about http://www.trinitysaintdavid.ac.uk/e...aduatecourses/ grade requirements? Or typical offers. Can't seem to find anything.Last edited by PieEatingHorses; 06-10-2011 at 17:40. -

it says "See introduction", but I can't find an introduction anywhere. I was looking at Acting at Trinity, but it looks too small for my liking, and the social life doesn't sound very good. Plus Camarthen seems to be the smaller campus and I want a University that's Glyndwr-size rather than really small.
Have you been to a Glyndwr open day yet? The accommodation there is absolutely amazing, especially in Wrexham Village. It's the luxury one, something like £95 a week, but it's so worth it. Huge plasma TVs and a sofa that looks leather, and an amazing kitchen, really big
the student village isn't bad either, I liked it but the kitchen was quite small.

Re: Glyndŵr University 2012I am a big fan of small universities, I'm not really fond of the whole city center universities such as Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, nor am I the kind of person to go out clubbing every day either (Not to say I don't sometimes). Plus, I'm a big fan of Site seeing / walking / hiking, and Wales has by far more amazing views and destinations than places like Liverpool and Birmingham.(Original post by madders94)

As stated above I'm going on the 15th of October!
I have always wondered why student rent is so high. For the price of £100 / week, you could get a flat between two people for around £450 split £225 (maybe less) then with abit more for Bills / Insurance. But I suppose the extra cost is worth it for the social side of living in Halls, but the flat thing would be ideal for my second year! (Hopeful with a lucky lady friend! xD)

Re: Glyndŵr University 2012That's one of the things I'm looking forwards to most, the social side of it all. I love having big groups of people around me so I just hope I get put with nice people(Original post by PieEatingHorses)

a friend's boyfriend goes to Glyndwr, and he's sharing a house with five international students, so he can't understand a word any of them are saying, but they all speak the same language, which is quite awkward for him. I'd hate to be in that situation, but I guess you're more likely to make closer friends on your course because you'll have similar interests.
I'm going to miss my boyfriend if I get in. It's about a 2 hour drive away from where he lives and though I'll be visiting him often, it won't be the same as spending most of our time together. I'm trying to persuade him to go to Uni with me
but he's got a job.
-
Re: Glyndŵr University 2012Well, even at Glyndwr which is a small University in comparison to most others really, and even if the Uni had 5-7 thousand they'd still be enough people to socialize and stuff with! And yeah, that would be a really awkward situation, xD As you couldn't really become friends with people you don't understand! Unless they were really hot(Original post by madders94)

Just saying. But yeah you are, I'm not sure how many people would be doing Social Policy, I can't Imagen too many. I'm sure they'll be a few weird people though.
And you can't get him to go Uni, and thats a lot bigger problem for me as me my girlfriend are planning / hoping to go to completely different universities (Which are pretty far away!) So I'm dreading the day where I have to leave! It's going to be horrible!Last edited by PieEatingHorses; 07-10-2011 at 19:22.
