Re: Glyndŵr University 2012
I'm a first year at Glyndwr, studying Renewable Energy and I'm really loving my time here after getting in through clearing just under a month ago.
Yes, its a small university but I believe that this is really beneficial both academically and socially! Socially, its a very tight knit community where 1st, 2nd and 3rd years all seem to get along with eachother and everybody seems to talk to eachother pretty easily whilst in halls. The teaching staff I've encountered are all very passionate, friendly and approachable and seem to treat you as an induvidual, not a number.
Also Wrexham is quite a diverse town with everything within 15 minutes walking distance....the train station is a 2 minute walk from my halls, town is 5 minutes away, theres lots of decent cheap shops and supermakets nearby and I can go on a pretty heavy night out (on a student night) into the town and easily manage with spending less than £15 in a night which is pretty good!
Accomodation is very nice too. I'm staying at Wrexham Village- Although its £98 a week, you get a virtually new en-suite room with a nice kitchen and good security.....definitely worth the extra cost over the original Student Village

I really hope the accommodation is as good as you say! The pricing of most Uni accommodation is around the £100 mark anyway, so It's not really shocking at all, I think I would love to have an en-suite room for the first year (Despite it being significantly more expensive than getting a house or flat share) just for the social part of it then in the second / third move into private accomodation.
As for shopping I can live on almost anything, out of curiosity how much is your own personal food budget p/week? And how much could you live on at the very least! -

I love the accommodation at Glyndwr, it's just
Having an en-suite is very important to me because of medical reasons which is why I love the fact that all the rooms in the student village and the Wrexham Village that I saw seemed to be en-suite. Off to pick four other choices on Monday but Glyndwr is definitely going to stay my number one. -
Re: Glyndŵr University 2012
I really recommend Wrexham Village guys! I'm staying here for my first year! It's a great place to meet new people too! Kitchens are pretty big too! I'm not sure if you can choose which block you are in but:
John Neal has the bigger kitchens and nicer sofas.
Erddig has the bigger bedrooms.
Snowdon Hall is apparently pretty good, Student Village not so much. Both are a bit smaller for everything.
The only slight problem with Wrexham Village is that, with it being next to the Racecourse ground, on match days it can get pretty loud. However, if you're into football and rugby league, this shouldn't matter too much. Plus football ticket prices are around £10 for students.
Let me know if you have any queries.

Re: Glyndŵr University 2012Im leaving Glyndwr at the end of the year for a number of reasons- I feel that Im not receiving good tuition from my lecturers, the university lacks any good facilities, Wrexham is a horrible town and everybody who works/studies at the university has a "cant be bothered" attitude which isnt good at all(Original post by madders94)
Thanks to an illness preventing me from doing Drama/Nursing, I'm now applying through Extra to Glyndwr for English and Creative Writing - just wondering how everyone else who applied to Glyndwr is getting on?
Feel free to PM me for more info... -
Re: Glyndŵr University 2012I actually like Wrexham as a town, been there many times, but I decided on Bangor as my first Extra choice anyway, because it's closer and I prefer the choice. Hope things get better for you soon(Original post by Ally Ally Oh....)

Re: Glyndŵr University 2012
I haven't been to an Open Day this year. I went to one about 5 years ago! And I did a summer school there too. I'm not going to be living there, I live nearby so I will just commute. It's actually kind of a last minute thing because I can't stand another year of working for a well know high street fast food restaurant

I've only recently applied but I email the SID and was told there's spaces on the course and the January deadline didn't apply! -
Re: Glyndŵr University 2012
Hey, I've been accepted at Glyndwr to do English and Creative Writing September 2012.

Planning to apply for student village tomorrow when it goes live and I'm going to the open day in May as well - though even if I love wrexham village, I doubt costs will work out! Just wondering if there's anyone else going to be applying for there or on my course? Bit nervous about it all, since I'm moving from Scotland to go there and only know my boyfriend and his friends in Wrexham

Re: Glyndŵr University 2012A couple of my friends are going there to do Theatre, Television and Performance, one has an Unconditional and the other has a Conditional offer and I think the one with the conditional offer is hoping to go into Wrexham Village, not sure about the one with the unconditional(Original post by Rosie1422)

Re: Glyndŵr University 2012
Not long to go now! I went with private student accommodation in Wrexham because it's a bit cheaper and still includes all bills. Hope I won't miss out on the social side of things because of that! Anyone else going to Glyndwr this September? =) That YouGo site says only one person's on my course, eek!
