Re: Basketball SocietyI realised when I started getting shooting pain straight after I jumped.(Original post by lebron_23)
I seriously don't know how i got it in both knees.. My physiotherapist said it was remarkably uncommon seeing as i'm only 16 haha. And yeah my surgery should be happening sometime in the near future and apparently i won't be able to bend my knees more than 60 degrees after that. However, once the prescribed 3 month healing period is over is should be ready to go again. Tbh, i only realised something was wrong in my knees when i discovered that i was jumping lower, i couldn't get enough lift on my jump shot so i kept front-rimming most of my shots (my FGP went from .682 [best on my team and probably in the league] to less than .300) and when landing of layups or getting rebounds my knees would either lock up later in the game, or if i was lucky, they'd just throb mildly for the rest of the evening. I'm blaming it on Air Alert 3 though..
Did you have similar problems???
And i play/used to play for/am going to play again for West London Basketball Club, although i think they renamed themselves as Emperors
What team di you/do you play for?
I just took painkillers and then used a support for my knee to keep playing.
You mean Uxbridge emperors, in all honesty they started off good in their 1st season, but they dropped right to the other end.
I played for Camden which comes with various names and London pioneers which is now London Greenhouse Pioneers. -

Re: Basketball Society
Hey guys. I love basketball, as I'm a ref and wannabe coach. I'm writing a blog about that. However, I'm coming to Scotland on 23rd August where I'm going to attend the referee preseason course and to help Scottish people develop basketball level since I'll be studying in Stirling uni for 4 years at least.

Re: Basketball SocietyNot exactly sure, but have a look at ESPN.(Original post by rurounikenji)

Leagues for college start off in terms of ranks.
NCAA I, is the highest division, which are than separated out into areas of the USA, to be honest its really huge, there are so many colleges(uni in terms of UK).
Than NCAA II, so on.
Than you got the other basketball league for college which are private colleges, not exactly sure what their leagues are called.
Then you have mens professional NBA, below that is the D-league.
Then you have womens WNBA, not sure if they have a league below.
For me it can get a bit confusing looking at the college leagues, as there are so many teams

Re: Basketball Society
Hi everyone! I love this sport too. Well, I'm actually just so-so at basketball but would love to improve.
I have been in my college's team, we played about three games and won two. I'm good in assisting, boxing out and fast breaking but my weak point would definitely be stealing the ball. Any tips on stealing? -
Re: Basketball SocietyWhats your position? Honestly do not try just go for steals if you try steal all the time you will just end up messing up and the guy your marking will go past you easily. Stealing good when it happens but really its not a huge make or break thing.(Original post by Maemi)

Re: Basketball Society
Hey everyone. It's really surprising how unpopular basketball is on TSR. I would have guessed this thread would have a lot more activity. Anyway I'm 5'11 or 6'0 in shoes and weigh 147lbs. I mostly play at Pg and sometimes at Sg. I'm a good shooter and passer but I have no athleticism at all. Well my speed is OK but my vertical is around 27 inches and I can barely touch the rim while a lot of my friends who have the same height and built can dunk. Does anyone have any advice on how to increase it?

Re: Basketball SocietyWhen I used to play, I use to be around 6'0 but I weighed around the 200+lbs and I could touch the rim, I started getting close to dunking until I messed up my knee.(Original post by ThatLTUguy)

Best way is to practice.......... when doing lay ups on either side make sure always to try and slap the backboard as high as you can.
Doing sit-ups and crunches to build your core strength and making sure the calves are worked, just do calve-raises on the staircases.
Don't steal if you don't know to especially in real games.(Original post by Maemi)

Apart from breaking your stance so the opponents can go by ......a lot of easy fouls and you'll hit your 5 foul limit.
If you really want to learn how to steal, you got to have a good posture and stance.......................and have very very fast hands. The way I built them was playing a faster player one on one constantly for a good few hours every week, eventually we both got known for our capabilities of just stealing so everyone would play it safe. And having the ability to do so on both hands is pretty nice.............but overall knowing when to put your hand and steal. -
Re: Basketball SocietyThanks, I'll definitely work on my core. I've been doing calve raises for years and working on my legs in the gym regularly and it doesn't seem to help much. My body will eventually get stronger as I'm only 17 so maybe there's still hope that I'll be able to dunk one day if my ankle holds up. BTW what happened to your knee?(Original post by Iqbal007)

Re: Basketball SocietyDon't do the standard ones, they are crap.......do the ones on the stairs where your feet go further down, works it better.(Original post by ThatLTUguy)

Just keep playing basketball, lots of touching the backboard during lay offs..............other then thing was both arms in the air with the basketball, and contuinally jump and touch the backboard using the ball while holding it. -
Re: Basketball SocietyThanks, Iqbal007. I'll work on my stance. Thats a great idea(Originally Posted by Maemi)

Re: Basketball Society
Lets try to wake this thread up. Everybody, what is/are your favorite team(s) and why?
I'll start. The Boston Celtics. I fell in love with this team in the 2008 NBA finals. I wasn't a fan of neither the C's nor the Lakers. But then came game 6 of the series and the Celtics just crushed the Lakers and I couldn't believe how one team can dominate the other so much. I still watch that game from time to time. I love watching Rondo and the way he developed and the way they play defense as a team.
Zalgiris Kaunas. My hometown team which plays in the Euroleague. The fact that it's my home team is probably why I like it because year after year, no matter how many roster or staff changes are made they just seem to screw up in very important games. They've been doing pretty well this year untill the top 16 stage but again they now seem to lose every game in the last 2 minutes. But somehow I just like watching them.Last edited by ThatLTUguy; 05-02-2013 at 15:44. -

Well, my favourite team is, and has been (before people speculate) the Miami Heat. I've been a Miami fan for a long time, way before LeBron decided to bring his talent down to South Beach. I think it was Dwyane Wade who was the player I looked at and thought, wow. Obviously LeBron was amazing, and he is most definitely my favourite player, but the way the Miami Heat had their team sorted out and how they gelled on the court drew my attention immediately. And that championship back in '06.. Ahhh!!
Closer to home, my team has to be the Guilford Heat, purely because my mate plays for them and he'd probably kill me if I didn't show my support. So yeah, check him out - Tayo Ogedengbe. -
Re: Basketball SocietyI like Miami too and I honestly think they're gonna win it all again this year. You took Ray-Ray from us but he's been a great addition. Do you think Lebron is the MVP again this year? Btw, I watched a couple of videos of Tayo, seems like a nice player.(Original post by lebron_23)
