Re: HYMS Medicine Applicants 2012The website says otherwise I believe: link
If you click on GCSEs and ALevels then it says you need to be predicted AAB to be considered but you will still need to get AAA in the end. I may have misunderstood what it is saying though

Is is possible to get into medicine with these results
Physics A

I originally went to mainstream school and am fortunate enough to be accepted to a grammar school. But is it possible for me to do Medicine?? I have done a week experience in the Birmingham Womens Hospital, Im on the list for work experience for June 2012 in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, I volunteer at the British HEart Foundatio. I am waiting to have my volunteering interview for ST John Mbulance as a youth leader... and will have an interview for the ROyal Orthapedic Hospital.
I am doing Physics Chemistry and Maths for ALevel. Are these good foundations?? Can anybody advice me any Universities that would take me in??
thanks -
Re: HYMS Medicine Applicants 2012gcse wise it is pretty good! though you would not be able to apply for unis such as birmingham, bristol because they require at least 6A*.(Original post by R10T_N0_B0UNTY)

also you not taking Biology at A level may put you at a disadvantage. as quite a number of them need it.

Re: HYMS Medicine Applicants 2012I so want to get in.(Original post by Yellowmonkeyman)
Helllo applicants and potential applicants, I'm a first year medical student at HYMS and I highly recommend it!
Are you at Hull or York? -
Re: HYMS Medicine Applicants 2012Hey(Original post by Yellowmonkeyman)
I'm sure you will
I'm at Hull which is clearly the better campus! It's cheaper and the nights out are awesome.
Does HYMS usually send out an acknowledgment?
Hope ur having fun in med.

Re: HYMS Medicine Applicants 2012I'm a reapplicant and they seem to really encourage taking gap years, so I hope so! I haven't seen either Hull or York, so I don't have a preference. Sounds great(Original post by Yellowmonkeyman)

Re: HYMS Medicine Applicants 2012Heya, I don't think I received one when I applied so I'm guessing they won't send them out this year(Original post by apple17)

How is the PBL at HYMS: like do u get enough support, i heard at Manchester, the PBL is crumbling to pieces -
Re: HYMS Medicine Applicants 2012It is really good, the work load is quite heavy but if you can organise then you will have no problems.(Original post by MJHERBZ)

As for gap years, I took one and I genuinely think it gave me skills and experiences that I simply didn't have the opportunity to develop at school. It really helped me at the interview stage. -
Re: HYMS Medicine Applicants 2012I'm not that much of a partier but people seem to be doing exactly that!(Original post by apple17)

That's the beauty of HYMS, the course is integrated so the pbl forms the basis of the weeks work AND it is supported by a vast array of plenaries, clinical skills sessions, biopracticals etc that help develop information and skills relevant to the pbl case.
The community at HYMS is great as well! Everyone is extremely supportive. -
Re: HYMS Medicine Applicants 2012Between Dec-Feb(Original post by Erotas)
Does anyone know roughly when HYMS interview?
HYMS usually gives offers out late Feb.
