Opening an under-19 bank account. Which is the best bank?
I want to open a new bank account for myself. The one I have at the moment is a savings account from Halifax but opened by my dad many years ago when I was 10/11 years old in his name. What's the best under-19s account I could open? Would Halifax be good considering I've been with them for years?

If Halifax have one then go for it, there are little benefits between all the different youth accounts, might be some free tat or something but I don't think you can overdrafts or other benefits.

Ok. The most important thing for me is that I want my own account where I can keep my own money, all in my name, so maybe I will try that. If I don't like it I could switch right? Or is it so hard?

Switching isn't hard, just a couple forms. Any account you open will be in your own name because you're now old enough to have one so it's all down to what bank you want to go with. Hth

Coop online banking gives the highest zero interest overdraft of any student account at £2000. That's the on I opened but natwest have a free railcard scheme as well, not sure how that works but it is defiantly worth looking into.

I have an account with HSBC and they are excellent. Really speedy service and really easy to put money into account. I can spend max £200 on debit card per day and the visa card is great. Really fantastic service including online banking.

I like Santander personally. I have an overdraft facility of £150 thats due to go up once my first student loan money goes in (as I have upgraded to a student account) and I have no limit on how much I can spend per day. The online banking for santander is the best thing because it's really quick and easy. I much prefer it to Natwest.

Why do you have a limit on how much you can spend per day? Isn't that kind of annoying?

Just in the under 18 account. I suppose they don't want less responsible spending 100's on something stupid.
