So any questions you want to ask, go ahead, and me and whoever other current student is online will try and ask them as best as we can.

To help matters, I study Sociology, Criminology and Education Studies and am in Lonsdale College.

I moved from the midlands, just below Birmingham. It's about three hours up the motorway to Lancaster from where I live. :smile:

Btw, to follow LubyLoo's example, I'm studying English Lit with Creative Writing and Women's Studies and I'm in Cartmel College.

I'm from Birmingham, (Well I live like 300 yards from the Welcome to Birmingham sign so close enough!) and I'm studying Accounting and Finance, *says in brummie accent* It's great

I live about 30mins away from B'ham and am hoping to come to Lancaster next year!

Question.....Im intending to study English Language, anyone heard anything about it? I originally applied for Media and Cultural Studies and the people there gave me the impression the English Language department was really boring?? lol

Also, would it be possible to study minors in Media and Cultural Studies and Creative Writing? If anyone does these subjects, do you enjoy them? Worst and best bits?!

As a part of the english department, I can tell you it's definitely not boring. Especially not the creative writing side, that's excellent. George Green, who is head of creative writing, is brilliant and really funny. :smile:

Obviously I can't talk about language as I'm doing literature, but the department as a whole can definitely not be classed as boring.

You say that like its a bad thing! I come from Newcastle, and there cannot be an accent which makes people sound thicker than the geordie accent. I'm planning to study French and Spanish. How many hours of lectures do you get a week?

Could someone explain doing the 3 subjects thing and if you do law do you just do law?

If you do Law, then that counts for two modules, so you only need to pick one extra. My housemate does law and in the first year she picked Psychology, because it covered a lot of the A Level (which she'd done), which meant she could concentrate more on the law modules. They tend to explain everything pretty well at the open days :biggrin:

I'm a third year, but in the first year I did economics, management science and OWT (I do business studies so don't actually have a major).

I moved from Liverpool, it's about an hours drive but takes nearly two hours on the train! :rolleyes:

I'm studying Geography (which counts for two subjects) and Biology as a minor. I was a bit confused about the major/minor system, but when i got here they explained it pretty well. :smile:

I live in surrey and have had an offer from Lancaster for Economics but have never visited the uni or even been further north than Leicester :redface:

hey there everybody... i just applied to do advertising and marketing @ lancs... any one know anything about the department? also whats the percentage of public school at the uni? oh yeah and whats the best college? sorry bout all the questions its just i dont have a clue where to go cos i got offers from all the unis i applied to and the lancs course looks the best

I, personally, haven't met any people from public school... I mean, there's bound to be some but I haven't ran across any. Or if I have, it hasn't been an issue that's been raised.

I haven't found it hard to stick to a budget but then I'm a bit of an organisation freak, haha. I have a budget of up to £70 a week maximum, I prefer not to spend that much though. As for easyness to get home, depends where you live! There is a train station though and it's on a mainline up to Edinburgh so there are a lot of trains north and south. :smile:
