Pharmacy has higher pay, better career prospects, more job stability, better working hours, you have the ability to open your own pharmacy ... you're able to balance your working and family life.
I only did biomedical science to get into dentistry, didn't get in, now I'm screwed. I wish I had done pharmacy instead as I'm now left with a degree that was good to study, however don't want to work in that field as the work is boring and the pay and hours aren't great.

can i just ask what degree classification did u get and what uni's did u apply to, coz i want to do dentistry after my biomed degree too:confused:

Pharmacist as a career; they're sought after and can be self- employed.

Biomedical sciences as a university course- I studied it and it would have interested me far more than pharmacy =)

Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me, do Biomedical scientist have to work night shif?

I study pharmacy, after 4 years at uni, 1 year pre-registration year and 4 years qualified as a specialist pharmacist in the NHS I am a band 7 pharmacist not even on £40k. I studied the course because I love sciences and I believed it would be a respected profession after medicine. I didn't get the grades for medicine. Now that I work daily with doctors I am glad I didn't get into medicine! Rubbish hours, hard work and low pay for their skills until they pass God knows how many exams to reach a consultancy level. Even then it's hard work!
My husband on the other hand is a biomedical scientist in the NHS his career progression is slower than mine, he is a band 6 earning less than me but works long hours and night shifts. He is brilliant at his job but finds it boring, I on the other hand love my job but resent the low pay. If we both had the chance to do it all over again we would have gone into the finance sector - we are both scientists but we have soon realised that the money is not enough in London. Do a course that is going to open doors for you not limit you!

When you say go into the finance sector, do you mean still finishing your biomed/pharmacy degree and then going into the sector or doing a whole other degree? Also i hope you are doing well in your career and hopefully your salary has increased these past 6 years.
