Re: “You are going to Hell”
No because that was John the disciple saying that stuff, not some random dude on a street corner. He was commanded by Jesus and the Holy Spirit to spread the gospel, right? And this was the foundation of the organised Church, who definitely can tell people they're going to hell? I'm not sure normal schmucks have as much right to do that.
I think not judging others is more important, really. I dunno, if you say, "Gay people risk going to hell," that's OK, but if you say, "You're going to hell because you're gay," that's judging, or evidence thereof. Of course judging others happens in the mind first, but yeah, the second one is evidence of it. -
Re: “You are going to Hell”I'm Christian, and I find it offensive when you tell me I'm going to hell.(Original post by Bakmouth)
Have you ever heard a Christian say this to someone?
I know a lot of non-religious people who don’t mind street preachers in general, but think that they overstep the mark when they say something like that in the thread title. I used to think it was a tad inappropriate. I believed that only God can judge a person and that it is therefore folly to speculate who is or is not going to Hell.
However I was reminded of the following verse recently by a friend who is involved in street preaching,
Everyone was expecting the Messiah to come soon, and they were eager to know whether John might be the Messiah. John answered their questions by saying, “I baptize you with water; but someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I’m not even worthy to be his slave and untie the straps of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. He is ready to separate the chaff from the wheat with his winnowing fork. Then he will clean up the threshing area, gathering the wheat into his barn but burning the chaff with never-ending fire.” John used many such warnings as he announced the Good News to the people. (Luke 3:15-18 NLT)
I believe that the Gospel (good news) speaks for itself and that it is quite simply the best news one could ever receive. But is there a scriptural argument for spelling out the consequences of disbelieving and rejecting the good news? I believe there is. I believe that Christians should follow the example of John the Baptist by being honest with people who throw the good news back in their faces.
Do you find it offensive when Christians say you are going to Hell?
If you do, and you don’t believe in the concept of Hell, why do you find it offensive?
No matter what you or I do, we'll never ever know, until after we die, what happens - and maybe then we'll discover what God really wants, instead of you claiming what he wants us to do in this life. -
Re: “You are going to Hell”What if I choose to believe in a different kind of Christ?(Original post by Bakmouth)
Christians believe that you have to have faith in Christ in order for your sins to be forgiven.
What if I choose to believe in... black Jesus...
Troll threads deserve troll answers.

Re: “You are going to Hell”
It's offensive because they come at your from an angle of superiority.
"God is right, you're wrong, I'm going to heaven, and you to hell, and the fact I'm preferred by an almighty voodoo man means I'm better than you and morally superior in every way so nyah nyah nyah."
It reminds of reception, when this one kid would keep telling me he was "more special" than me because his mother kept telling him so. -
Re: “You are going to Hell”Seriously, you've made my day with that statement. F**king legend.(Original post by Billinghaylad1976)
I've already been to hell. It's called shopping at Poundland on a Saturday afternoon. -
Re: “You are going to Hell”Just reminded me of this.(Original post by domino0806)
No, I find it quite amusing.
The best thing to do to such people is to offer them kinky homosexual sex, they always get so pissed off, it's amazing.

Re: “You are going to Hell”I just feel sorry for them, to be honest. That few seconds of their life could have been spent appreciating this world, which is surely the greatest heaven there could possibly be?(Original post by Bakmouth)

I have better things to do than be offended, by anyone, on any grounds.Last edited by Octohedral; 08-09-2011 at 09:15.
