Wahey, people like myself!

I live in Manchester and i'm choosing to stay at home (for the time being anyway) and i'm studying English Language and Spanish!

Quick question guys, What are you all doing this week? Obviously not being in halls we don't find out as easy about all the nights out and things oeganised by the halls but for us to stay at home in freshers week isn't on! So where is everyone going?

I'm always up for meeting new people, and i suppose it's that bit more difficult for us staying at home, not mixing with the same flatmates on a day to day basis. Either way, what are everybodys plans this week? Not got any nights planned yet of where to go, just wanna make the most of Freshers week!

Not a clue yet tbh. Really nervous about my first day tomorrow. I'm such a shy guy with new people, ugh.

so is there anyone else doing straight english language or english language as part of their degree? I would really like to meet anyone on my course who is also commuting, or anyone in general really lol. I will be travelling from the middleton area (north manc) either by bus or the leeds train through mills hill. Good luck to everyone this week

If any of you are commuting from Greater Manchester places such as Bolton then I advise you to check out the System One railcard - COUNTY CARD. its basically £95 for a month which allows you to use any train or bus (seriously ANY train or bus) within greater manchester at any time. So it saves loads of money if you catch trains at peak times, will use buses often and also its just a lot less hassle because you dont need to faff about with buying tickets.

Basically go to your travel shop, you'll need a passport photo.. And you make a membership card there , then can buy the months pass when you need one

I commute, it is harder to socialise but if you become pro active, make the effort to speak to people whenever possible then you can quickly become friends. Then they may be kind enough to let you crash at theirs if there is some sort of night out happening that you want to go to with them

The launch party? ah dont worry to much. I assume your course has a few little events its holding where you can make the effort to speak to lots of people and hopefully someone will offer to let you stay at there's so you can go on a night out with them
And also I'd like to say that if you cant go to any nights out on freshers week then dont be too bummed out because there will be plenty of chances afterwards.

I'm up for getting to know people, who are staying at home.

It's difficult trying to make friends when they're all going to events organised by their halls etc.

PM me and we'll get to know each other

Currently, I'm not commuting, but since I am not wanting to remain in halls, I think I soon will. Reading this forum is definitely making me feel better about it, since most people are insistent on telling people to remain in halls, but frankfully, I miss home too much!
I'm from Preston, so will probably get the train from Horwich, since it's cheaper :-)
