hey, i also want to apply for the birmingham civil engineering foundation course 2012.
i cant answer any of your questions but,
what a levels do you do?... because some unis dont like it if you do the right subjects and apply for foundation year. do you know if birmingham is like this? because it doesnt say so on the website.

what grades do you have at AS, subjects?
are the fees the same or lower than a normal uni year?

let me know how things go!!

You should do an M.Eng rather than a B.Eng in Civil Engineering as it is really the only route to graduate level employment unless you pay extra for an MSc (which is more narrow and focussed than the 4 year M.Eng). Also should you wish to become Chartered it allows you to skip the 'Further Learning' stage.

On the other hand, if you have a good idea of the sector you would like to work in, I hear that local employers proactively recruit from certain MSc courses, and that Birmingham's Civil Engineering MSc's arevery highly regarded. Bear in mind that it will be very expensive by the time you apply - potentially £10-15k.

Now, I don't know much about the Foundation year but that tuition is part time and it teaches you A-Level maths and Science until you are competent enough to hypothetically meet their A-Level offer, which currently stands at AAA.

thanks for the responses! much appreciated!
well @IamSerious I went to the open day a few weeks back and they said that the foundation year is aimed towards students that do not study the mechanics modules in maths, most of the first year covers mostly mechanics. So I very doubt they would accept me for the foundation year. The offers that they said were AAA-AAB, they didn't say anything about which grade is needed for the maths. The guy that I spoke to said they don't require you to have physics for AS/A2, only a B or C at gcse i think!
Im in my final year of A Levels now and im doing Maths (mech), DT and ICT and I got BBB but predicted AAB so hopefully I will get the offer!
