Re: ***Official 2012 Neuroscience Applicantsis it really this hard? or just at UCL???!!! you're getting me worried...(Original post by neurodude)
Hey there.
I got A*A*A. The spread I've seen on the course is between about A*A*A* and AAA. There may be one or two people with AAB.
The best advice I can give you for the interview is to be passionate about the subject. I'm deadly serious; the interviewers are all quite senior and can be a bit intimidating, but the purpose of the interview above all is to assess whether or not you truly want to study such a difficult course and if you can indicate that, you'll be fine. Any questions they ask will generally be on your personal statement; they tend to primarily test thinking skills and your ability to solve a problem rather than the breadth of your knowledge, but I'd still avoid mentioning anything on your PS that you're not confident about. (And if you've already sent it off, I'd make sure you at least understand everything you've mentioned.) I would also advise you, absolutely unconditionally, not to try to lie to the interviewers or attempt any kind of sophistry; the interviewers are very, very intelligent people with a phenomenal grasp of the subject area and they'll catch you out.
So yes; as airy-fairy as it sounds, if you truly love the subject area I wouldn't worry too much about the interview.

Re: ***Official 2012 Neuroscience ApplicantsThe UCL course is the hardest in the country. It's not an 'easy' degree anywhere but it's not likely to be quite as intense as it is at UCL if you're applying elsewhere.(Original post by joy_arthur)

Re: ***Official 2012 Neuroscience ApplicantsOh right I wasn't aware of that. And yeah applying elsewhere Bristol is my top choice want to go there so badly!(Original post by neurodude)

Re: ***Official 2012 Neuroscience Applicants^^ 'tis so true. But it's probably just my biased neurons mis-interpreting the looks of 'awe' on people's faces when I tell them that I do neuroscience. The expression is probably more like 'I have no idea what that is, but frankly, I don't care'.(Original post by Tasneemo)
Good luck everyone
I was a Neuroscience 2011 applicant, I know the looks of awe you get when you tell people you plan on doing Neuroscience

On the book front, 'The Decisive Moment' by Lehrer (which, admittedly, is on a very specific area of neuroscience), 'The Human Brain: A Guided Tour' by Greenfield and 'The Tell-tale Brain' by V.S. Ramachandran are all good reads. I'd also recommend the following booklet for a general overview and introduction:

Re: ***Official 2012 Neuroscience ApplicantsMy fifth is Keele... they only do neuroscience as a dual honours, but they offer BBB-BBC, which isn't as low as most of the other backup options, but gives a safety net below all the AABs.(Original post by Minotauro)
What did you guys put down as your fifth choices?
I'm having a tough time picking one....
thanks -
Re: ***Official 2012 Neuroscience ApplicantsYes. They have loads of research placement opportunities as well as at the university, and it looked great when I visited. I loved the area too.(Original post by Silkielemon)
Is leeds any good for Neuro?
