Re: ***Official 2012 Neuroscience Applicantsohh thats true! also the small ones you might end up with only 3 other people which would be pretty quiet! apparently cairncross isnt divided into flats? its all just one big thing with allocated kitchens and bathrooms? not too keen on that :/ i think if you put murano as first choice you'll probably get it because it's where most 1st year undergrads end up!(Original post by Josiea)
I know :/ I'm also slightly worried its going to be loud all the time too! But not having a cleaner for the bathroom is just ewww.
Yeah I think so, I put murano large, small, cairncross small, cairncross large, QM en-suite and student apartments single. or something like that, but I'm banking on getting murano as they have like 1000 students there, I don't really want any of the others due to price! -
Re: ***Official 2012 Neuroscience ApplicantsI know and you might just hate the other people! With 10-12 people you are less likely for that to happen(Original post by hjenkins6)

Re: ***Official 2012 Neuroscience ApplicantsOn my visit to UCL (Anatomy building, next to the main building) they said most of the lectures are to be "around there" so the first year students don't have to go long distances both from their accommodation (if in UCL residence) and inside the campus.(Original post by bilabilabila)
firmed UCL yay
anyone knows where are we going to have most of the lectures/lab work? will it be somewhere outside the UCL campus?
I'm currently working on the accommodation stuff to choose the best location to live... headache!

i received an offer without a open day, thats why i don't have much information
did they say anything important on the open day? for example is that ok to switch from BSc to MSc if i want to? any academic issues will do (and of course social stuff is ok :P haha) -
Re: ***Official 2012 Neuroscience ApplicantsI'm not from UK so I could not attend the open day either(Original post by bilabilabila)
thanks

But I happened to be in London earlier this year so I had arranged a personal meeting.
Regarding MSci/BSc: I have emailed the tutor in September asking which one should I apply for. He recommended MSci as it is easier to switch from MSci to BSc and a number of students did so last year. As I've understood, it's "easier" with regard to finances.
I don't think it's problematic to switch between the two programmes anyways, the staff seems very helpful
Also, if I'm not mistaken they mentioned that each student has an advisor on academic matters (a NS student) and a personal advisor on any other matters (not a NS student)
That seems really nice and that was the thing I hadn't read about before, but it seems pretty much all the information is on their website

Re: ***Official 2012 Neuroscience ApplicantsHey sorry I just saw this. I just applied for accommodation! I put my most important factor as location! Preference is en-suite though. what about you?(Original post by Mattyphillips5320)
I've got an offer, just about making the grades now! Have you had anything through regarding accommodation? -
Re: ***Official 2012 Neuroscience Applicants
Firstly, congrats to all on your neuroscience offers.
I'm about to finish my first year of neuroscience at ucl, in terms of accommodation, wish for somewhere like Arthur Tattersall or John Tovell, both of which are pretty much opposite the anatomy building so you can be in lectures within 30 seconds! The next nearest ones are Ramsay Hall (catered) and Astor. All of those are within 5 minutes walk.(Original post by bilabilabila)

All lectures are within campus, all labs are in campus too so you'll never need to walk more than 5 minutes to anything during your first year. -

I'm about to send off my application for accommodation, and I was wondering if I could get some advice. I really don't want to share a room, but proximity is also a big factor for me. However, you only get to put one preference on the application. What are the chances of me getting a shared room if I say my preference is proximity but specify elsewhere that I don't want shared?
Many thanks! -
Re: ***Official 2012 Neuroscience ApplicantsYeah, almost all of the lecture theatres and labs seemed to be in and around the Anatomy, Biology and Medical Sciences buildings which are just off the main quad outside the portico, so pretty convenient.(Original post by bilabilabila)

Re: ***Official 2012 Neuroscience Applicants
I rarely ever post on here but I just need to express my excitement somewhere :P So happy to have an offer from UCL! I've just applied for accommodation so it's just set in that I might be moving out of home and into the marvellous world of neuroscience

UCL is my firm choice with King's for insurance. Anyone else doing the IB and trying to get that 38?
Well done, everyone!
EDIT: I do have a question though - does every applicant for accommodation have to wait until A-Level results come out to hear back from UCL? The IB results day is July 5th so I was wondering if that would affect it. Thanks in advance for any replies!Last edited by HelloAndromeda; 27-04-2012 at 12:59. -
Re: ***Official 2012 Neuroscience ApplicantsIf you have applied for catered accommodation then you are very unlikely to get a shared room. However, in my opinion it is definitely worth going for proximity.(Original post by Mattyphillips5320)

Although you have to remember that a lot of the close proximity self-catered accommodation is in fact shared and in hindsight, i think sharing is a worthwhile 'sacrifice' just so you can be closeby - from people i know who share - they find it absolutely fine and get on well with their roommate even if they had reservations about it prior to applying.
Also as a side note, try not to put down a large 'maximum weekly budget', as they'll put you in one of those single-en suite rooms that are near victoria station which is a long way away! -

Hey, I'm in exactly the same position! Is your King's offer 36?
UCL 38 offer is all very well but the worst part is the 6,6,6 from HL subjects. I'm quite stressed I might even score higher total but fail with 5 from one of my HLs :/ -

I did the IB too! Took the November examinations though. Don't worry about getting the 38 because you'll definitely do it (: (: (: What HLs are you taking? I strongly suggest doing the past year papers. Just SPAM those because it helped me a lot. They repeat some of the questions as well. I hope this helps!!!
