The Student Room Group

£20k/week escort & Toys R Us Boss

Basically:

- Toys R Us manager, Hopes steals £3.7million from Toys R Us
- He spends it on 4 prostitutes
- One of these call girls is Dawn Dunbar received £1.75million from Hopes = £20k/week + Bentley as gift
- Judge doesn't believe call girl is worth that much: "How do you manage to evaluate your services sex at £20,000 a week?"
- She replies: ‘It wasn’t me that was putting the worth on that. It was Mr Hopes paying what he thought it was worth."
- Assets of Dunbar are seized as they are regarded not as earnings, but as gifts

As the escort says: the value of something is determined by how much someone is willing to pay. If her client wanted to pay her that much, then those are her earnings. Because the judge doesn't think she's worth 20k/week he declares the monies she received are 'gifts' rather than 'earnings' and can be seized.

Seems rather unfair to me. Nobody would challenge those in high paid 'respectable' jobs e.g. banker or...judge (!) to justify their earnings.

The call girl may not be 'hot' to most, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and sexual desires can be 'odd' indeed. If 20k is what Hopes wanted to pay her for her services, then what's the problem?

They are technically earnings. He didn't give her that money out of the goodness of his heart, she did a job for it. However, an escort's bread and butter is being given insane amounts of money or high value items she could never hope to earn working on a till in Asda.

I think the judge was trying to say he could have got at least an 8+/10 for £20,000.00 a week, not that 2/10-at-best

my god whats the world coming to?
It's a bit rich for a member of the legal profession to ask someone else how they justify their earnings.

...Lucky bitch.

Well, given that her client has stolen the money and her own earnings have now been seized, I think not

They're earnings so it's wrong of the judge even if I don't agree with her work or what the boss was spending millions on.

The call girl may not be 'hot'

*taken aback*

Bloody hell, you're not wrong there!
The money she was receiving was swindled, that has a bearing on how the judge is approaching it and rightly so.
