Re: 2012 Uni Applicants for PhotographyProbably GSA, I want to keep doing traditional art also so it really is perfect, but GSA is so competitive(Original post by Senika)
Thanks for your answer
I'm applying to ECA and GSA as well. What's your first choice? (So many questions, sorry!)
and not hearing anything yet makes me nervous.. how about you?

Re: 2012 Uni Applicants for PhotographyThank you for replying and yes it was helpful. Falmouth is also my first choice, i fell in love with it when i attended the open day. its just hard to choose as i want a university that is well connected to the industry.(Original post by procrastination...)
It's your choice and the end of the day and you shouldn't base it on what any of us say! However, Falmouth is a brilliant place and the course is one of the best, and it's my top choice. I applied to Brighton and sent off an online portfolio but haven't heard back, but I really liked the place and it had a great atmosphere, but they didn't want to take anyone on that hadn't done a foundation diploma so I don't know what that means for you? I personally didn't like LCC but I applied to Canberwell but I wasn't wowed by it, they rejected me probably because I didn't do a foundation. I don't know if that's helped you at all
but you should consider the location and the quality of the course and the facilities etc really. I dunno this is turning into an essay
hope this helps you in some way!

Re: 2012 Uni Applicants for Photography
Interview at ECA!

I can't decide between ECA and Napier... I mean, ECA seems great but I'm looking for is a course where I get very strong technical knowledge and lots of professional training, not only "art stuff"(Original post by robyn_)
Probably GSA, I want to keep doing traditional art also so it really is perfect, but GSA is so competitive

Re: 2012 Uni Applicants for PhotographyI got my email from ECA yesterday for an interview, I just read the guidelines and there is a bit saying that if you can't attend an interview they won't reschedule but if you speak to them then you can send your portfolio. It's all in the guideline notes that they send out.(Original post by Senika)
Guys... What if I can't attend an interview at ECA?
Do you think I can still get in if I send my portfolio on a DVD? Please help!!
-
Re: 2012 Uni Applicants for Photographyi'm sorta in the same situation as you... i don't know yet if i can go either. i don't think sending a dvd in will decrease your chances of getting in, though. i mean, at the applicant day you just give your portfolio and then you walk around, come back and take it from them, you never actually talk to them about your work, you only ask questions about the course, so in a sense this is sorta similar to sending a dvd in. hope this helps/ eases your worry(Original post by Senika)

Re: 2012 Uni Applicants for PhotographyMe too!(Original post by robyn_)
Unconditional for Napier, happy chappy! -
Re: 2012 Uni Applicants for PhotographyAhh I know, I had the tour before my interview which was a great idea as I was buzzing after seeing all of the facilities again, they really are the best I've seen. Really hoping I get an offer now!(Original post by MarcusHoare1)
Their facilities blew me away - the fact that I wont have to wet develop film anymore is a massive positive. -
Re: 2012 Uni Applicants for PhotographyAh good! Yeah totally, well I was chatting to one of the students yesterday and she was saying that the portfolios that come out of Falmouth once you've studied there are at such a higher standard and that a lot of the people that go to the London Unis pretty much have a similar style whereas the Falmouth lot are a lot more diverse and unusual. She aaaaalso said that a lot of people from the industry request people from Falmouth's portfolios because they know how good they are. I should get paid for writing about Falmouth I swear! Haha(Original post by fernandolive)

Re: 2012 Uni Applicants for Photographydo you happen to know when brighton usually gives out their decisions? i had my telephone interview in january and i still haven't hear anything from them...(Original post by procrastination...)
Got an Interview for Brighton in March! I cannot believe it, especially after going to the Open Day as they seemed really against accepting those who hadn't done a foundation! Ahhh!!! -

I read the guidelines and thought the same. I wish I could afford going to Edinburgh right now, but they canceled all cheap flights.
I'll have to send my portfolio on Monday and I don't have any research portfolio.

Re: 2012 Uni Applicants for PhotographyNot really I'm afraid, they've really taken their time with getting things sorted though I know that much! Perhaps you should try calling/emailing them to see what's going on?(Original post by madrassnuff)

Re: 2012 Uni Applicants for Photography
I just got and email from Napier that said In order to continue processing your application, we need to see a copy of your academic transcripts (translated into English if applicable) from your schooling at Turun IItalukio and Helsinki City College.
has anyone else got asked to do this (anyone living abroad i mean)? do you think i should get the transcripts professionally translated or could i just do it myself. i know i need like real translations if get in somewhere but it just seems sort of waste to do it now and then if i don't get in it's been for nothing... -
Re: 2012 Uni Applicants for PhotographyNapier didn't ask me to translate anything, perhaps because they don't care about my high school diplomas. I'm studying in Denmark, but my program and all qualifications I get are in English.(Original post by dylansdream)

Don't go to a professional translator unless Napier clearly requires you to do so. Two years ago I spent a lot of money on having my school diplomas translated to English for an art school in France (I did get in, but couldn't afford it after all :P). It's a waste of money! Just do it yourself.
