On a school trip to Germany me and three friends were staying with this retired couple. There were a few girls we knew staying a few houses down the street, when we were telling our hosts this I mixed up "Freunde"-the plural world for friend with "Freundin"- the word for girlfriend. It wasn't helped by the fact that one of them came to the door while we were having dinner and one of my mates stood up as she walked in the room.

At least it seemed embarrassing at 13.

A boy in my French class took to singing happily, "Ou est ma chat? Ma chat est sur la branche!" at least once every lesson, usually more.

At first it was funny just because it was disruptive, but when he went out the room once, our French teacher explained that if referring to a cat as feminine by saying "ma chat" instead of "mon chat" it is the equivalent of saying "pussy" in English and all that entails...!

We just let him carry on, he got really confused when we started laughing more than we had done before.

Trying to repeat the German word for 'Majesty' out loud only to accidentally say, as I was told after everyone had stopped laughing, the German expression for 'my hard on'. I couldn't help but laugh at everyone's shocked expression.

For a Russian mock oral, I said that cigarettes have berries in them by mistake.

"Le fromage 'The Laughing Cow' n'est pas bon pour la sante car il y a beaucoup des preservatifs"

That translates to "The Laughing Cow cheese is unhealthy because it has a lot of condoms".

When I first moved to England, we were playing charades at primary school and the person was clearly demonstrating some sort of liquid food so I assumed soup, but said soap instead.
Also, quite recently, I pronounced the word almond like salmon, without the 'l'.

If there's a sexual mistake to be made, I make it.

In Martinique I first told my exchange partner's mother that je suis chaude (meaning sexually aroused) and then later managed to tell someone that I was frigid (je suis froide) -_-
I was really cross with myself, but I was panicking about the speed everyone was speaking, and in my efforts to keep the pace of the conversation I was making really stupid mistakes.

I was in Luxembourg, went into McDonalds and the menu was all in German. I speak German so I was like "oh yeah, my time to shine".

    Went to the counter:

    Me: Sprechen sie Deutsch?
    Them: Ermmm.... non.
Me: Erm, right, can I have DEUX APPLE PIES sil vous plait.

Why have the menu entirely in German if the bloody staff don't speak it?

I was doing a latin translation with my teacher, where she would read a line out in Latin, and I would translate it to english.I was crashing the couse(never having done GCSE in it) and I managed to say Charon, the guardian of the Styx, had many hairy chins, when in fact he had a very hairy chin(lit.a many haired chin) and I got confused. My teacher couldnt stop laughing for about twenty minutes, and even after that, she kept giggling intermittently.

I was taking part in an AS conversation class with our German assistant and I was supposed to describe a photograph that she'd given me. I quite innocently told her 'Sie hat glockige Haare', thinking that it meant 'she has curly hair'.

Turns out it meant 'she has bell hair'. :facepalm2:

My friends once walked around a little town in France singing a line from the song Lady Marmalade "voulez vous couchez avec moi ce soir" which means "will you sleep with me tonight"!!! We were 12! XD

I was in Italy and wanted to order some pasta with tomato sauce which is called "penne al pommodoro" and the "penne" is pronounced with emphasis on the n; I had asked for "pene al pommodoro" without emphasis on the n, which translates to "penis with tomato".

During my GCSE German oral I had the question (obviously in German but I can't remember how to say it ) 'What do you think of smoking?', the German for smoking is 'rauchen' (pronounced r-ow-hen) but I heard 'Ohren' (the German for ears) so I had to haphazardly try and club together an answer that went something like 'I think they're very useful, they're on the side of my head and they're important to my day to day life'.

Luckily it was only a mock!

Well...in a GCSE french oral, right in the middle, I fell off my chair, but because it had already started my teacher wouldn't let me start over. I'm sure an examiner somewhere is giggling at my tape (which involved lots of thumps and 'ouches') haha. Never have I been so embarassed :hand:

For my proper Russian oral I said that my favourite chinese food was curry. Just thought of a random food that I knew the word for. More awkward when I'm actually Russian and fluent in it..Bad moment to have a memory http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/wiki...d_Careersblank.

In a chinese restaurant, I consistently referred to a waitress as my wife.

GCSE French oral, confused the words 'mer' and 'merde'. My teacher burst out laughing and I had to restart

Not my mistakes, but a temporary GCSE French teacher that we had told us that he was playing ping-pong with some friends over in France one time, and it was a really intense game, so when he won, he ended up shrieking, "JE SUIS LE CHAMPIGNON DE PING-PONG!" He meant "champion of ping-pong" of course, but... "champignon" is "mushroom".
