Re: Blacklist A levels!I went to Bath uni open day and they didn't like ICT, but this was for Architecture (:(Original post by HaadeeZaman)
i wondering whether these a levels are suitable for me to be studying, and none are blacklisted subjects ;
-Economics
-ICT
-Sociology
-English Language -
Re: Blacklist A levels!
Firstly, try and group all a levels into three categories:
A = Generally Acceptable (will help you get into any degree)
B = Limited (will help you to get into degrees of the same name)
C = NG (will not help you at all.. only suitable as 4th subjects).
Economics = A
ICT = C
Sociology = B
English Language = B
Some adjustments you might want to make
- Change english language to English Literature, which is an A list subject
- Change ICT to another B list subject, such as Psychology. ICT is useless, however having one C subject is fine.Last edited by adamjay; 17-09-2011 at 17:29. -
Re: Blacklist A levels!
Don't do sociology, that looks blacklisted. Do maths instead. Uni's love mathematical subjects. Almost all of them want to see maths otherwise they won't take you seriously.
"English language" doesn't sound good. How about just the normal English?
I can't see anything wrong with economics that looks fine. Don't think that's blacklisted.
Instead of doing ICT (it's so boring and useless in terms of getting into uni) do computing science (you get to deal with programming, iphones, ps3's stuff like that - way cooler and a much more respected A Level).
I reccommend
Economics
Computing Science
Mathematics
English -

e.g. comptuing > ICT
Not sure on Sociology though -
Re: Blacklist A levels!Psychology is probably on par with Sociology.(Original post by kingshan16)
They say Psychology is a strong subject. So I would advice swap Sociology with Psychology. Also drop ICT and take a maths or a science. -
Re: Blacklist A levels!I would completely agree with this - if I were you, I would change lang to lit and then change ICT to something else you're interested in, then you would have (using the system above) two A subjects (economics and Lit.), a B (sociology) and then a fourth one that would be an A/B(Original post by adamjay)

that's what I'd do, good luck

Re: Blacklist A levels!Few A Levels are "blacklisted". It depends a lot on what you want to do, and whether it is your fourth A Level or not.(Original post by HaadeeZaman)

Re: Blacklist A levels!
I know this thread is almost a year old, but I thought I'd give my view anyway. Sociology is not, nor has it ever been, a blacklisted subject. It's on par with Psychology and is actually a fairly respectable subject to have. Plus, it's brilliant. I would suggest Lit or Lang/Lit, too, but it should all be about what you enjoy the most.

Psychology is probably on par with Sociology.
