I'm going to the Computer Science open day/interview too. There was a thread about it awhile back that had a post that explained it pretty well!

I got rejected and I find this absolutely hilarious. Obviously Kent did not read my personal statement PROPERLY and didn't realize I'm living in Canada and realise it's next to impossible to attend an interview. So what do they do when I tell them I can't attend regardless for an alternate phone interview? Reject me.

Well I guess it's Kent's loss, I have unconditional's from much higher ranked universities but it's annoying why they made my application unsuccessful. I even had an interview from another university which I haven't even replied to for an interview yet, however on track they still gave me an unconditional today. I just ask myself If I knew they were going to do this then I would of picked another university as I know I've just wasted a whole university choice on a selfish university.

Good luck anyway Kent folk, looks like it's probably Kings for me.

Wow what the hell? that ridiculous. Kent pretty much let anyone in if they have the grades. I really don't get this. What idiots. Did you ring them up and tell them your canadian? i really don't understand how they could have rejected you

    Sorry to hear.
Did you e-mail them telling them you couldn't attend the interview? or just expect them to realise via your PS?

Good job you weren't too bothered. Universities have set criteria which can sometimes be extremely variable and to which they adhere, but they're sometimes flexible. Sounds like that in your case they weren't, but only you can find out exactly why, if you can be bothered and they're entirely truthful in their reply. And even then, if they have made some kind of admin error, they're unlikely to admit it.

I recently received my first offer (from another uni), but it was impossible for me to achieve the grades they were asking for. When I politely pointed this out they reassessed and fortunately made a new lower offer, but it could easily have gone the other way if I'd kicked off about their poor administration. BTW, I'm not making accusations

So glad you just posted this! Got my offer from Kent which is one of my top two choices so I feel all amazing! However it's a double edged sword as they've predicted me grades I can't achieve. Do you think I should ring them and explain?

You could but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't help. Without boring you with details, I was being asked for qualifications that I wasn't taking, so it was a little different.

I'm not being pedantic, but it's your school or college that's predicted your grades. Universities and HE colleges ask for the grades they want. They probably wouldn't have made you an offer if your predicted grades didn't meet or were close to the grades they are asking for.

Ahh I see quite a bit different then aha, thanks for the reply. I can see what they've done for the offer but doesn't make it easier! I'll talk to my college though not much they can do, I'm just grateful for the offer as I really like Kent and I guess I'll have to work really really hard. No loss in doing that at all really

Just Josh, I'm a British citizen who done A levels with family in Canada so I'm living here for the time being working. I sent a polite email explaining to them I can't attend the interview as soon as I heard I got the letter and requested an alternate. They said they understood my case via email and that it was not necessary for an interview and said they would forward my case to the open day/admissions team. Checked today and surprise surprise found an unsuccessful application, no feedback or anything.

I had the grades asked, they gave me an interview, I sent an email saying I can't attend and possible for an alternative. They said they understood and forwarded it to admissions and got a instant rejection, no feedback yet from an appeal email. Looks doubtful. Of course I didn't send an email to them kicking off their poor administration I sent an email back wondering why. But for the time being I'm a bit annoyed they gave me a rejection no questions asked nor feedback.

I got my conditional offer a few weeks ago, and both me and my 3 friends have been asked to get grades at least 0.5 points higher than lancaster and sussex asked from us. So far, Kent is the lowest ranked uni we've applied to and the one who asked the highest grades. So... i'm gonna firm sussex and wish you guys the best of luck.

Kent's offer is more subject specific than QMUL despite having lower grades.
So Kent will 100% be my insurance.

Without a doubt, universities are influenced by league tables. However, the grades asked for is mostly determined by the trend in demand for a course. So either there's more demand for your course at Kent or the admissions team have got their sums wrong.
