Re: Warwick Maths/MORSE/Stats applicants and questions 2012where you the one who said 24^2?(Original post by Ree69)
was alright, found the step 1 session a bit boring and went to step 2 in the afternoon. (that woman made about 10 mistakes within the first 10 minutes!) -
Re: Warwick Maths/MORSE/Stats applicants and questions 2012ah man, you should've told me what you were wearing - i would've said hey!(Original post by jilebinator)
where you the one who said 24^2?
yeah that was me. well, she asked for the prime factors of 576, and i said "i know it's 24^2, i'm trying to do it in my head now..." or something -
Re: Warwick Maths/MORSE/Stats applicants and questions 2012yeah, and she kept looking through her glasses. she didn't read the first part of the question properly!(Original post by MHRed)
Yeah, I went there in the morning too. She looked dead uneasy standing, I thought she was gonna fall on me at one point!
although her notes/solutions were really good, probably better than the step 2 solutions we got -
Re: Warwick Maths/MORSE/Stats applicants and questions 2012damn, I had a feeling that was you. but no, i went for the other guy!(Original post by Ree69)

Re: Warwick Maths/MORSE/Stats applicants and questions 2012Yeah the solutions were good, and I've never thought of using dummy variable, 'g.p backwards' or prime factorisation before, so it was definitely helpful!(Original post by Ree69)

Erm, jumper/black Charlie Sheen top and dark chinos..(Original post by jilebinator)
what were you wearing?
...I was the one at the front who asked 'soldiered on using factor theorem' or words to that effect

Re: Warwick Maths/MORSE/Stats applicants and questions 2012I only did the STEP 1 sessions, found some of them fairly easy, but others i had no idea how to get past the first part :/(Original post by MHRed)
Yeah, same [to the first part].
Haha, how come, the session hard? How did everyone else find it?
Oh and i thought anne was hilarious, saying things like "If you're fly, you can do these in your head"Last edited by Dan*; 19-04-2012 at 12:39. -
Re: Warwick Maths/MORSE/Stats applicants and questions 2012They said so at my interview last year; I think they're running the same 'reward' this year as well (based from what people said who went to the interview).(Original post by oh_1993)
Where did you hear about this? And is it a 1 in any single paper?
Yeah, or a distinction in the Maths AEA. -
Re: Warwick Maths/MORSE/Stats applicants and questions 2012Yeah, a grade 1 in any STEP paper will get you £500 from Warwick granted you apply to do MORSE/MMORSE. It's to get more people doing STEP as they hold it in high regard I suppose.(Original post by oh_1993)

Re: Warwick Maths/MORSE/Stats applicants and questions 2012So not for straight Maths then? wtf(Original post by Roy064)

Re: Warwick Maths/MORSE/Stats applicants and questions 2012No because a grade 1 is actually part of the Maths departments standard offer and I think it's the Statistics department that awards it, so MORSE/MMORSE and MathStat/MMathstat are eligible as long as it's the Firm choice. Also it does include a distinction in AEA.(Original post by oh_1993)

Maths department might run a similar incentive but I doubt it for the reason above, STEP is optional for Statistics courses whereas STEP is compulsory for Maths courses. -
Re: Warwick Maths/MORSE/Stats applicants and questions 2012I wish they would do it for Maths but with S grades. That would certainly be an incentive.(Original post by Roy064)

Re: Warwick Maths/MORSE/Stats applicants and questions 2012how so? havent heard about this at all haha might be a bit more motivation to work harder!(Original post by Ree69)
Yeah if you got a comfortable 2 last year then you should probably nail STEP this year.
Plus if you get a 1, Warwick will give you half a grand anyway
e: just read the previous posts, ignore !
just wondering, is anyone able to scan the handouts given on the second step day for step I? i went to the first and was unable to make the second and emailed dr boddison but he hasn't repliedLast edited by 8inchestall; 20-04-2012 at 17:20. -

Hi all,
Good luck to those of you sitting the STEP exams tomorrow and on Wednesday. Just a reminder from us that these exams are sat internationally and so no discussion of the STEP exam will be allowed for 24 hours after the exam start time. We don't want you getting warned unnecessarily! Please see the announcements for more information and report any discussion that you see during this period.
Thank you!
