You apply for accommodation online, once you have made it your firm choice you are able to apply. You have to choose your 1st, second and third choice so you will be able to pick the specific accommodation you want. Hope that helps
Hi! Its super useful having current students on here to answer questions,
I've heard at some universities there's a section on the form to say if you'd like to request to live near someone else who is going to the same uni? so if I had a friend who was applying for the same halls, Can you remember if that was a thing on the Winchester application form?

I don't suppose anyone is doing American Studies and Media Studies? Apparently I'm the only one asking for that course!

Still not heard a reply though...

Even if there isn't, you can send an e-mail asking them.

I knew someone who started Winchester at the same times as her sister and they didn't ask, but ended up in rooms next door to each other.

Yea unfortunately I dont remember that being an option on the form but if you speak to housing, they are really nice. There are less people going to uni this year because of fees which means more places in halls so it's likely, this is their contact details

Hi, has anybody else applied for Accounting and Finance or Accounting/Management and got an offer so far? If so how many UCAS points did they require?

I currently have 270 so I hope this is enough (they state 260-300), I will be retaking one of my maths modules in the summer to hopefully get an A grade (I was three marks off ) to hopefully increase my points to 290.
Hey! I have applied to do Accounting and Finance!
I received a conditional offer at 260 points. I guess it depends on how good your personal statement is and what subjects you did for A level!

BTW, I haven't visted any of the unis on my list, but firmed Winchester and Plymouth as my insurance! Lets hope I made a good choice!

Just thought I would let you know that I am studying at winchester and it is my first year.

I study History and Politics, both departments, are fantastic, History is in medecroft and politics in west downs.

The city is great, lovely place to live to be honest.

But the university as a whole is brilliant. It feels like a community, 6,000 students I believe study here so its alot easier to get to know quite a few people inside and outside of your course.

If anyone has any questions Im happy to answer them, good luck to everyone applying here
    Hi,

My daughter has an offer for Medieval History and we have visited the Uni on two occasions and it's strongly in the running to be her firm choice (up against Chichester!).

Can I ask how you find the lecturers for History - are they friendly/approachable/available/good at teaching? Do you get much direction from them?

Thanks for any information you can give.

Hi. Neurotic mother here. It appears that the quickest way to get to the station from King Alfred campus is to walk through the graveyard? or is there a bus? And how brave d'you need to be (as a 19 year old scaredy cat female) to walk through that graveyard alone and at night? Any reassurance would be gratefully received. Thanks.

You can avoid the graveyard, by going right up the road instead, then turning left. I never had any problems with going through it, most students use it.

The only time it spooked me was in the dark on Halloween, when I was alone :afraid:

Only thing holding me back firming Winchester is it's size & it's relatively anonymity...

Ok fingers crossed I get an offer.

Have you never visited Winchester? I live 15 miles away, it's a relatively small place generally an upper-middle class area so very little amount of annoying chavs. Shops are lacking though, have to go to Basingstoke or Southampton for any real night life/shopping. The campus at the Uni is small but nicely presented.

Hello, yeah the history lectures are great at winchester. They are definitely friendly, one lecture I wasnt a big fan of though, but Ive met around 7 lectures this year and only one of them I didnt get on with, but the other students found that lecture ok.

Yeah they are definitely approachable and available, at the end of the day the university wants to make you feel comfortable, which is what my tutor said to me who is one of the history lectures.

Yeah they are good at teaching, history though is a difficult subject to study, but the lectures make it interesting through group work and also through lectures.

Yeah, they you give you some direction, you can always go and see them for help, but what I think is also good is that you become alot more independent with your assignments, unless it is a group presentation.

http://www.winchester.ac.uk/academic.../Profiles.aspx thought this would be good to send to you, you can see what lectures your daughter might have at university if you want to contact them at all.

    Good luck to your daughter
