Again... any questions about Winchester, I'll try to answer. It's good here.

Hi. I'd like to ask you a few if I may (on behalf of daughter, who's considering firming Winchester, but is away at the moment). You may not be able to answer them all, but whatever you can, would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

1) How's the night life on campus? plenty of opportunities to mix and mingle/get drunk/party/etc?
2) Do the catered students at King Alfred campus get to socialise within their accomodation in the same sort of way as the self-catered lot?
3) Is the student village at West Downs quite a long walk from King Alfred campus compared to Queens Road student village?
4) Is the campus noticeably quieter at weekends (ie. do lots of people go back home at weekends?)
5) How easy/safe is it to walk to Winchester city itself, particularly the train station?
6) Is the low male to female ratio of students an issue, or is it not particularly noticeable?
7) Does the internet seem to work ok in accomodation?

....I think that's all (sorry it's so many)

Thanks

1) There are two clubs in Winchester, they've very good and very popular. The Student Union puts on events every night of the week (except Saturday) and they're very popular. If clubbing is not her thing then there are nice pubs in the area, the County Arms is the most popular one for students. There are also a lot of societies she will be able to join and make friends there whilst having fun. Or you can just hang out with your friends in a flat. There's a lot of opportunity to make friends, it's a small university so its easy to keep in touch with them.

2) Those living in catered accommodation do socialise a lot with each other, they go to meals together and such. I can't say much though as I'm in self catered accommodation.

3) Queens accommodation is in the King Alfred campus and West Downs is right next to it, although it is up a big hill.

4) It is noticeably quieter. A lot of students go home on the weekend or are commuters. There's only around 6000 students at this uni, it's very small (but punching well above its weight in terms of academic achievements) here. Majority of students here though live off of campus (the second and third years), which leaves the campus quiet.

5) It's very safe. Winchester is the safest place to live in the UK. A few years ago Winchester given the award for the best place to live in the UK. I've not heard or seen of any crimes here. The walk from the station to campus is only 10 minutes aswell. The fact that on November 5th they let tens of thousands of people walk around the city with fire swords should say how safe it is here!

6) There is more female students than male here. Probably about 60% female. It's no issue though for anyone.

7) The internet here is very good. In my accommodation (Queens) I downloaded a 20gb file within 40 minutes. It's not slow and has never cut out of me once and I can't complain.

Hope that answers your questions.

I'll be happy to answer anything else anyone has to ask.

I don't think you get interviewed for English  there's a list at the back of the prospectus of subjects they interview for. From the top of my head I believe they interview for Nursing, Drama, Primary Education and more vocational subjects like that. I applied for English and didn't get interviewed. I think they only choose to interview you if they're unsure about your application and want to get more of an idea of what you're like.

Oh thanks! I was worried I had missed it or something!:')

HI!
I'm Zoe, I just made an account to chat on this thread, so this is my first post

I will (hopefully!) be studying combined sociology and media studies at winchester, starting 2012.
i called them earlier to change my course to add media studies as combined, and im still impatiently awaiting my offer, eek
it's definitely my first choice, the only uni im really serious about, the city is beautiful, the uni is so small and anxiety disorder friendly! haha
I've got an unconditional to study Politics here and by the looks of things its going to be my first choice. The uni looks so nice and seems like one of those that is small yet punches far above its weight, hence the reason i liked it so much. Does anyone know what the nightlife is like? And possibly the rugby?

I made an account for the same reason xD Hi!

I've put Winchester as my firm choice, and I've got a conditional offer to study Creative Writing and Media Production. It's only conditional because of a mix up with my iMedia qualification though, I've somehow lost 20 UCAS points x.x

Has anyone else applied for these subjects?

I'm really looking forward to going to uni, but it's going to be scary so I'd love to make some friends first

Still waiting on an offer :P my birthday was on the 18th so it would've been nice to hear something then, but I didn't... Getting impatient! :P well done to everyone with offers, hopefully I'll be joining you at Winchester!
Patiently... that's a lie-

Impatiently waiting for an offer for Childhood and Youth Studies combined with Health and Social Care Studies!

I've only applied for Winchester and Portsmouth as I need to stay at home and they're in train distance, so it would be nice to hear from one of them soon so I can relax a bit!

Ohh awesome! Hello  I looked at doing Journalism Studies, but I'd rather be involved in some sort of practical media hence applying for MP instead.

Funny you say that, I was looking at creative writing! I suppose I just wanted something a bit different. I can't wait to get into the practical side of media production (especially after looking at the studio at Winchester!)

Cool - both englishes for me XP
I've got an offer for English provided I get 320 UCAS points. I've put it as my firm choice and I'm really pleased I got the offer. Loved the campus, and love what the course offers
