    Hey,

When you guys apply to Imperial, for Post graduate, you only submit your first two years of transcript, right? ( I mean for those applying from British Universities)

I'm not sure, as when I applied, I had already graduated, so my transcript reflected my 3 years of my degree. I guess when you apply, its best to submit whatever you have available at the time of application.

They'll still ask you what you predict you'll get, i.e. a 1st, 2.1., etc. as the minimum required will be at least a 2.1, but for very competitive courses, they may end up giving offers to applicants with 1sts (and they'll give you condition if you get an offer).

In addition to VENIVIDIVICI i would say also make sure you have a few weeks prior to your course starting to get acclimatised to your new area of London, and start to get used to the tube lines and bus routes etc. I love London, but still get lost! I bet, like myself, you cannot wait to start your course and be able to tell others that you are studying at such a prestigious university!
    Hey, Gavin

Howzit going mate? Quick question: did the College email you recently about your offer? I had an email this morning from the faculty of medicine asking me if I am still keen on taking up my offer. They went on to talk about offers only being extended to the best and that for my course, they had very good students on the waiting list. If my situation changes and I don't want to go there any more, then I should let them know, so they can offer a wait-listed individual the place.

I didn't realise how sought after this course was (I just thought it was part of their marketing when they mentioned that they get lots of applications for this course).. Now I feel really privileged to have been offered a place . What do you think?

Still don't know how I'm gonna pay for it though...

    Hi VENIVIDIVICI,

(Whoa, that was tough to type) kheh........thanks for your reply. The problem is that i studied in USA for 5 semesters before transferring out to a Russell Group university in UK. I am done with Stage 2 as i got direct entry to Stage 2. Now i am left with stage 3. So if i apply this fall for 2013 post-graduate entry, i will have transcripts from UK and USA. However, as my degree will be from UK, which transcripts will i need to upload in the application?

I am worried as my grades in USA were no where near to what i have in UK.....is there any way you could ask anyone? I appreciate your kind help.

Ok, I see. Not easy hey...I think you have to show proof of whatever you have put down on your application. So, if you have mentioned about your studies in the US, it makes sense to submit proof. Your UK transcripts will be important, but I suspect they'll also want to see any related marks, etc. which comes from the US.

I would email your admissions contact and ask them directly what's required. Hear it from the horse's mouth instead of us guessing what we think they'd want.

    Best of luck.

    Hey man!

Yeah, received the same email this morning! Must admit, made me grin and feel proud. We must be smart :P.

Yeah, also just literally received another email requesting my masters to be paid in full by the 01-09-2012. Makes it all seem real! Scary times!

Definitely! I must admit, I'm worried about the financial cost of doing this MRes. I need it to open doors for me when I'm done with it...funded PhD doors...otherwise it would be a waste of time and money (money I don't really have).

Another question for you: would you do an MRes at Imperial (top tier uni) at your own cost OR would you do a funded PhD (if you had an offer for one) from a third/fourth tier university?

I sent my transcript and a scan of my certificate as an email attachment to admissions. I think they then verified it with my uni once they received it.

    Was that sufficient?

I was lucky enough to go personally to the Student Hub on campus and let them copy my transcript and degree certificate.

Yeah I was surprised too; I thought I'd have to show them a hard copy, but they replied saying it's all been confirmed.

So, have you met all your conditions?

I have indeed! They wanted a first. Was a little nervous when the results came out to say the least.

Well done you. Many congratulations .

Its funny that for most masters courses, Imperial stipulates a minimum of a 2.1, but most people that I've spoken to that have offers for this autumn, the conditions were to get a first. Just shows how competitive it is to get into ICL.

I wonder how many people with 2.1's got offers.

    What's your course?

    Hi all,

After a 3 month wait, during which I have been offered and accepted an Msc in Biomedical and Molecular Science Research at King’s College London, yesterday I received an offer for an Msc in Immunology at Imperial (which was my second choice. My first choice was the Mres in Biomedical Research for which I had been selected for an interview that never took place, but that is not the reason why I am writing this post so I do not want to discuss this further).

I have already paid the 10% deposit at King’s but the fees for the Msc Immunology at Imperial are cheaper and in fact I would be saving about £1000, so that will not be an issue.

I am trying to get into medical research and Immunology is possibly something I would like to specialize in (by doing a PhD), in the future. So here I am, trying to figure out which Msc would be more suitable to me (that is something only I can decide, I know ) and in particular which one would offer more opportunities after graduation (that is something I would like to discuss with you).

I would appreciate your thoughts on this matter.

    Thank you!

    Hi mate,

Are you back in London yet?

You have quite a dilemma on your hands.

After speaking to you at length about merits of going to King's or Imperial, etc. I would say that if its immunology you want to specialise in, and if your MSc at King's don't cover much Immunology, then you may be best served by the Imperial MSc.

The only problem would be forfeiting your deposit at King's by withdrawing. I know most uni's where you have to pay a deposit won't give you the money back unless you have extenuating circumstances (ill health, death in family, etc. which will stop you from taking up your place). Best to contact them to find out how flexible they are about it.

In terms of going for a PhD, I think both options will serve you well (especially if you can get a project on your MSc at King's with a immunological flavour?).

Tough call. Don't know why King's is more expensive . The course that I withdrew from with them were also more expensive than the one I'm gonna do at Imperial.

    Hello mate!

    Thank you for your post.

Yes I am back in London for a meeting that I have this week but I am going away again early next week. How have you been?

Yes the MSc at King's doesn't cover much Immunology in the taught modules, but I am sure I could then choose an Immunology based project and still be able to specialize in the field.

The MSc at King’s is now been filled so I doubt they’ll give me back my deposit but to be honest I am not worried about that as the MSc at Imperial is £1500 cheaper so I would still be able to save money if I went for the Imperial MSc.

A couple of things to take into consideration: the MSc at King’s will give me a more general background knowledge and laboratory training in various fields of research whereas the one at Imperial is just Immunology so I’ll have to be 100% sure this is what I want to do as a future career.

Moreover, the campus for the MSc at King’s is literally 10 min away by tube from where I live, whereas the Imperial one is at the Hammersmith campus and about 30-40 min away, ah!

I’ll have to decide by the end of this week! I’ll keep you posted mate

    Skyliner -

Remember that you don't have to do your PhD at the same place you did your Masters - you can stick with the King's MSc if you want a slightly broader course, and then come over to Imperial for a more focussed PhD (we won't hold it against you... much ).

I'm sitting around in the office all summer, so if anyone has any questions about PG life, please feel free to fire away... please...
