My favourite quote that is  Good things will come for those that wait!
Do you mean the acknowledgement email? If so I had my email for Aber a few days after my application was processed. Here's hoping for speedy news.

haha! And it's true it seems! It's also my computer screensaver (I don't know why I used it for my screensaver but I wanted to write something interesting and that just popped to mind and I suppose when you have a screensaver you're waiting maybe....ah anyway....that's what my screen saver says  )

I got the email from UCAS saying they had got my payment but then in order to see the tracking I have to use a new login thing from a welcome letter...but I havn't got the welcome letter yet. I havn't got an email from Aber either yet. I sure hope I get some news soon! I hope my application hasn't been eaten by Piranhas!

What course do you want to take?

Also...why are you called "The Optimistic Ram"??? I love that name! But how did you come up with that?!

This is to the two people who asked about what I am studying:

Hey, i'm a girl studying Computer Science,
which there are not many! Plus I am not the typical comp sci student. I have no idea what skyrim or that stuff is.
I've never done programming before so I am finding it a definite experience! But overall Aber is amazing!
The course is really good, all my lecturers are really fun, I do have alot of work, but at the moment I seem to have more social time that actually doing work, but I have an assignment due for two weeks time so that will probably stop!
I have 15 lectures a week plus 4 hours of practicals, but that is just the subject I am studying, I know someone who has only got 5 lectures a week plus a couple of seminars.
Anything else you would like to know?

Do you enjoy the genereal lifestyle at Aber (as a place to live)?

What made you choose Aber over your other choices?

Hey, that's a good qs!
but very easy to answer!

Aber is amazing! I come from a big city, but I love it here.
Everyone here is extremely friendly and I have made lots of new friends!
I do love the general lifestyle of Aber as everywhere is within walking distance, therefore great for being lazy! Wherever you go you always meet someone you know, and have a bit of a natter.
Granted the town is small, and yes you laugh that it only has two clubs, three if you include the union, but they are all really fun!
The union has some great events going on, this saturday just gone, we had a uv paint party which was amazing! Messy but incredible!
Aber is also a very cheap place to live, as taxi is a pound each everywhere, well everything is really good price here!
Best thing to do is to get involved in clubs and societies because all of their nights out are brill! I joined Aber's student station www.bay-radio.co.uk and I now have a show saturday morning at 11 - 1pm.

I chose this uni because when I came here for the open day for my course, the lecturer just sat us in the room and talked to us as if he had known us for years, it was just a general convo between all the visiting people, we weren't even talking about the subject most of the time. It was a completely different experience than any other open day I had been on.
Another major reason is that it's a beautiful beach town!
Sorry to keep going on about it, it's just that I have loved every minute of being here so far, and I really don't want to go back home.

Too true, too true

Ah I see, Aber are pretty quick at sending out the acknowledgement emails (well they were for me) so hopefully you should hear from them sooner rather than later. Piranhas on the internet?!?! Must be Doctor Who

What course do you want to take?

Marketing, I took Applied Business at GCSE and got A* A*, I'm currently taking Economics as one of my A Level's. I'm interested in taking the next step to specialising in something, I'm creative and like trying to sell/pitch things/ideas to people so I thought Marketing might be a good road to go down.

Also...why are you called "The Optimistic Ram"??? I love that name! But how did you come up with that?!

I come from Derby, I support Derby County and their nickname is "The Rams", so the Ram part comes from that. Optimistic, comes from myself. Whatever I am doing I will always be optimistic and believe I can do well, or if Derby are playing I will ALWAYS believe we will win. Blind faith maybe, but I call it optimism. Then the 'the' just tied it all together. My avatar is just perfect I think.

Woop! Thanks

Aber is amazing! I come from a big city, but I love it here.

I come from a small village about 30 minutes from Derby, I don't want a city university, I want somewhere that's got that little thing that makes it "WOW" and "I love it!!!".
Everyone here is extremely friendly and I have made lots of new friends!
I do love the general lifestyle of Aber as everywhere is within walking distance, therefore great for being lazy! Wherever you go you always meet someone you know, and have a bit of a natter.

Sounds perfect, absolutely perfect. Aber is sooo what I want out of university.
I joined Aber's student station www.bay-radio.co.uk and I now have a show saturday morning at 11 - 1pm.

This is something that I reeeeaaaallllllyyyyyy want to do. Before I decided on applying for Marketing, I looked at journalism, I have a few friends and family members that have radio shows and its something which really appeals to me. I'll give your show a listen if I have time on Saturday.

Similar to my experience on the open day. Before the subject speech/presentation started I got talking with one of the lecturers and we just chatted about general things, as it happens it turns out he lived and worked in Derby (where I come from) for many years so we got along great.
Another major reason is that it's a beautiful beach town!

A massive plus point for me aswell.
Sorry to keep going on about it, it's just that I have loved every minute of being here so far, and I really don't want to go back home.
Don't apologise, I went to the open day earlier in the year and absolutely fell in love with the place. The question was asked as I had 2 days in Aber, if I am to live their for 3/4 years (and maybe longer) its a good idea to ask people what its like who actually live there.

Many thanks for your extremely in depth reply, this has helped made my mind up even more!!! Rep to you!

Doctor Who....as that is a very logical explanation to the whereabouts of my UCAS application  Perhaps he used it to fight off the Darleks or something

Well done for the GCSE grades! Sounds like a good plan. Do what you enjoy and what you do best...that's always a good strategy

aha! The Ram thing makes sense now! And the avatar is perfect...it matches the name!

I went on the Bangor applicant 2012 page (as I've applied there)...and I saw your name there too!! haha!

My two top universities are Bangor and Aber. Although I'm not sure which one I like more.
I only went to Bangor's open day. I wanted to see Aber aswell...but their open day was the same as Bangor's in October so I couldn't see both of them on that day (plus it had already been a long journey from Southampton so going to Aber too would of been a bit too much in terms of travelling)
But I really want to see it still....might go to see it in summer!
I like Bangor because I love the landscape, the atmosphere, the course and it also looks a bit like HOGWARTS!! (in the main building)
But for some reason I think I might prefer Aber....although I havn't actually seen it in real life. It's a lot closer to the sea than Bangor (which I love...because I LOVE THE SEA!!...la mer! ), I think the town looks a bit more exciting compared to Bangor (from what I've seen from the internet and prospectus). Oooh and it has a castle there too I think. It also looks like they have more of a music scene and they look like they have a few music festivals in the year..which I would love!
Bangor and Aber seem to offer a very similar course so it's mostly down to environment and atmosphere factors for me.

What do you think about them?

It would be freaky if we eventually ended up going to the same place! I could be like "Hello The Optimistic Ram!" it could be like a code name!

For me, Aber and Bangor are very very different in terms of environment, atmosphere and the likes. The one main selling thing for me in that area is the size of the place. I went to a smallish secondary school (400 pupils), and absolutely loved it as everyone knew each other and you didn't really 'live' in one area of the school. I now go to a large sixth form college where everyone tends to 'live' in separate areas, such as the sciences section/floor or the business section/floor. That just isn't me, as I like to know where places are/know people etc.

So away from my life, Aber is small, much smaller than Bangor but nicer because it's small (for me anyway). And as you say the sea is very much closer to the town. In Bangor, the sea was quite a trek away from the main uni buildings with the accommodation being even further away :frown:, at Aber you can live on the sea front!! Just cross your fingers your room is on the front and not the back over looking the car park....

Without trying to sound all 'mushy'(?) about the place, I did really feel at home in Aber, which I didn't really feel in Bangor. At Bangor it just seemed like even though everything might be within a 10-20 minute walk to places, it just felt longer and not as nice as Aber. Yes, Aber is at the top of a steep hill but as Natti has said the taxi's are very cheap if you fancy being lazy!! I didn't want a campus uni and I didn't want a city uni so Aber is the perfect choice for me and is definitely my first choice without doubt, followed by Bangor and Lincoln.

Aside from the fact it seems that my destiny is going to Aber as literally everyone I spoke to had connections with Derby somehow. The Marketing tutor I spoke to use to live/work in Derby, the bus driver on the town tour said half of his village come from Derby and while been shown round the seafront accommodation (even though tours had ended and the bus driver gave me a private taxi ride down to the seafront in his bus!!) I met some more people from Derby. It's just meant to be.

I felt quite depressed when I went to visit Aber and everyone was going on about how the main thing attracting them to Aber was the sea... if I go to Aber, I'll be further away from the sea than I am now  but that's the same for whichever Uni of my choices that I go to. I was prepared for it anyway because I know Aber pretty well.

Congrats on your offers  And good luck if you're still waiting  I am still waiting for a reference from my old school (3 weeks now! :frown: )

Here here...there's no reason to be depressed. Go take a look at your sea and relax

Hi, I'm new here. I have an offer from Aberystwyth for the course Film&TV Studies\Drama&Theatre. Is Aberystwyth the right place to study these subjects? I'm asking, because I really liked the university, but I'm not from the UK and I do not have a chance to visit the university. Thanks for the answer .

My cousin did Film and TV Studies and enjoyed the course but has since struggled to find any work, but I think that's more a reflection of the UK's current situation with regards to employment than on Aber itself. A friend does Drama there and she seems to really like it there

Thanks for the answer. The rumors about the employability really disturb me, but I think that my realization depend on my abilities, so I guess that I will just ignore them. Anyway, I still do not know if I should choose Aberystwyth or Aberdeen, but I still have time to decide.
