Re: Occupational Therapy in 2012have you been to see both?(Original post by razina)
Hi, Ive recieved a conditional from both Huddersfield and York and need to reply by 7th June..but i'm really stuck on which uni is the best!
Just wondering if any of you could give me some advice??
i didnt see huddersfield but (i assume its york st john?) york was soo nice! i loved it
i think its really good to be so close to the city and i loved the friendly atmosphere of the place. how big is huddersfield? if you want a small family atmosphere i think york st john has that.... go through the pros and cons of each
what is the night life, staff, clubs etc like and what are your priorities...was the accommodation or food better in one particular place?! xxx

no you're not the only guy, also anxious to get offers unconditional, then I can get on and move into a flat and I can get a school lined up for my daughter, I'm sure it will all fall into place in due course though.
I think you might have been on the same "egg task" as me at SHU, and we walked down the hill together after?Last edited by PaulLampeter; 03-07-2012 at 22:32. -
Re: Occupational Therapy in 2012
Hi Paul, I was 'fishing' and pleased you've responded.
I recall the 'egg task' and got an unconditional offer from SHU and accepted months past. I don't recall our walk but in any event i hope you get what you want as it seems from your message that you are waiting for an offer?
My problem re. accommodation is that I'm 'skint' so don't have a deposit for a private room which is typically £200-250, and knowing the better areas. From my research the west side of sheffield, i.e. outwards on Eccleshall Rd is includes more desirable environment. But perhaps you know more? -

I am really enthused about starting OT at SHU. I've got a dilemma re. accommodation because although 1st years all have hall accomm. that is possibly more affordable and organised for us; I'm anxious that the hall will include 'distracting' party animals and make me potentially upset/irritated, whereas private accomm. is available, being signed up to now, leaving the less desirable ones for late bidders. I don't have a deposit now, £200-50, so probably can't move to Sheffield until mid-September.
What are your thoughts and intentions re. accommodation?? -
Re: Occupational Therapy in 2012Hi Richard I am a mature student 46! and am going to uwe to do OT where the rumour going round is that they accepted more men this year for OT than any previous years - so go guys for the rebalancing of the OT profession!! and better debates for the class as men and women mix is so much better than all girls ! I also did my first BA degree in Sheffield Hallam (was good old ploy in them days) 23 years ago!! and can recommend living in netheredge/Ecclesall rd - fab student town, you will love it. Good luck with OT course i am sure some of us will post on TSR once we are all in place and can all breathe a sigh of relief that we a) got a place and b) survived the first weeks!!(Original post by Richard OT)

Re: Occupational Therapy in 2012Hi Richard you are probably already all over spareoom website for accom but not everyone asks for a deposit, I am checking every day for accom in Bristol....like you finances are very tight for me too! Sheffield is a big city and lots out rooms to rent - I hope you get sorted!(Original post by Richard OT)

Re: Occupational Therapy in 2012Hi , maybe I'm getting you mixed up with the other chap.. Either way alls going ahead ok, just waiting for my CRB to be sorted before I look for accom, as there is always danger that I move to the wrong town if I end up going with my insurance(Original post by Richard OT)

Re: Occupational Therapy in 2012
Good luck to too, Paul...I'm really itching to get going...OT is brilliant profession for the 21st century, so specific, so inclusive...I hesitate saying 'holistic' because it's slightly cliched and fuzzy term...what do you think?
Hope to see you on campus...
