Medicine in MALTA FREEEEEE??
Did anyone know that University of Malta has a MD (Doctor of Medicine and Surgery) degree is accredited with the UK GMC conditions, it is fully taught in English.
So you do the 5 years there and then come back to the UK to do your Foundation years, its only a 3 hour flight from UK and that's not the greatest news....
There is no TUITION FEES!!! Just accommodation costs. -

Can you send me a link to this, please. What are the academic requirements in terms of GCSE and A level passes? -
Re: Medicine in MALTA FREEEEEE??
It is free. Under European Union law, whatever fee you charge to your home students, you also have to charge to the students of all other EU member states.
So because Malta charges its own students nothing, all other EU students can study there for free. You are not entitled to any student support loans/grants, however.
This is the reason that everybody in Europe can study at a Scottish University for free, except for the English/Welsh/Northern Irish. -
Re: Medicine in MALTA FREEEEEE??Technically all applicants from the EU must be treated equally and non-preferentially. That is to say, it is illegal to prefer a domestic applicant over an EU applicant.(Original post by Agent Smirnoff)
May be Free but the only issue is the competition.
Malta's one Medical School, Competitive subject and course, Small nation and FREE tuition ......... It really is a lottery tbh.
If I were you.........I wouldn't bother. -

Technically all applicants from the EU must be treated equally and non-preferentially. That is to say, it is illegal to prefer a domestic applicant over an EU applicant.
Unrelated to what Im saying.
Im trying to say that so many people would want it that it would be very competitive and tbh not much of a chance of making it in

Why would med school be free?
Sounds highly unlikely tbh as I imagine every Tom, Dick and Harry will have a go at some free goods!
Because they make it that way for thier own people and it has to be so for other EU residents.
They also think that you may do a bit of practice in Malta.
How are you applications going Stace? -
Re: Medicine in MALTA FREEEEEE??
i remember consider applying to them in 2006...but i think being able to speak maltese was a requirement back then...you'd better check with admissions if the language requirements still exist, because even though the course is taught in english, many of the older patients may not be able to speak it...

My application is almost done, just have my UKCAT to do next week and finish off the personal statement. After that depending on my UKCAT I'll make my choices which I think I've got a vague idea about...then after that fingers crossed!
Didn't realise you were an OU student
Aspiring Medic...so you doing retakes etc?

Re: Medicine in MALTA FREEEEEE??EU rules state that you must charge EU students from other EU countries the same as local students(Original post by MoMatrix)
It's around 25,000 EUR yearly for non-EU students. You reckon it'll be free for us? -

Wikipedia says official languages are Maltese and English.
If you want to study Medicine for free, better off going to Scotland. (see above post)Last edited by No Future; 27-09-2011 at 17:17.
