Some universities say that Economics at A Level is a desirable subject, but I found no such mention on your website? Is this/is this not the case, along with compulsory Mathematics?
    Hi,
I make mention of this in the info at the start of the thread

No preference over A-Levels (or IB) aside from Maths

The Warwick economics course is mathematical, so we require an A at A-Level Maths, or a 6 at Higher Level Maths in IB, for L100 and L112.

Aside from Maths, however, this year we have no preference over other strong A-level subjects, such as Further Maths, Economics, Psychology, History, Sciences, English etc.

This means that you should study those subjects which you are interested in, and you think will be helpful to you during your degree, rather than trying to "tailor" an application to what you think we want to see.

For example, you will want to display an interest in Economics in your personal statement, but we understand that not everybody has had the opportunity to study it at A-Level, or is just now deciding that's what they want to study at degree level, so we are happy to accept applications from people with a wide range of academic backgrounds.

Maybe, for example, you wanted to be a linguist, and chose your A-Levels as such, but now decide you would like to get a solid grounding in Economics, and study languages as an option on your degree (which you can do on L100) instead. If so, that's great, and we'd love to receive an application from you.

    A general question.

Are the applications evaluated at the same time for international and domestic applicants or do decisions come at different times for international vs domestic applicants for a particular course?

    Thank you.

    Hi,
I can only speak for Economics really, but applications are evaluated at similar times, so I would expect decisions to be made in the same time frame.

If we didn't receive an offer from the first batch, but applied a few weeks ago, are our chances slim?

    Thanks.

Was the first batch of offers given out yesterday? Or will there be offers given out throughout this week?

    Thanks!

    Hi,
I can't speak to when offers are being sent out, as I'm not involved with central admissions. I would imagine, however, that offers will be sent out on a fairly continual basis.

    Hi,
When making your offers do you consider the date you received the application ?
So if an applicant applied in September would they get an offer before an applicant who applied in mid October, provided of course they are both worthy of an offer. Or is this time frame between their two applications irrelevant and they would both get offers at the same time, provided they were both worthy of one.

That's really a question for the central admissions processing team rather than me. Admissions officers simply make a decision on whether or not to give each application an offer, and then pass them back to the processing team who will chase up required documentation, inform UCAS etc. I couldn't say whether at what sort of interval they get "released" to you.

So when you receive an application, you think about it and say yes/no or do you put some applications on hold for some time. Because I am yet to here anyone being rejected from Warwick this early, so does that mean everyone who hasn't got an offer has been put on hold ?

Hi. Is 3A2 + 1As necessary for admission at warwick? Most probably I will only attempt 3 A2 subjects. I am an international student and I have already applied to Warwick. I got 5A* 4A 1B in my GCSE. I got 'Top in the World' in june 2010 O Level examination for Economics and also a 99% in maths. So, with only 3A2 (Eco, Accounts & maths) will I be a good candidate for Economics at Warwick?

Some applications will be placed on hold, but, as I mentioned at the start of the thread, we are aiming to make quicker decisions this year, with less being placed on hold.

It will not the be case that everyone who hasn't got an offer has been placed on hold. I would imagine you are more likely to hear of someone telling you they got an offer than hearing of someone who didn't.

    Hi,
yes, we require either 4 A2's, or 3 A2's and 1 AS, so you will need to demonstrate that you are attempting at least another AS level in order to receive an offer from us.

Re: Official Warwick Economics Q&A Thread
    Hi,

I'm now in my first year of college studying Chemistry, Economics, English Language & Literature and French at AS. I have not been given any official grade predictions, but I think I'm expected to do quite well.

    Here's the problem:

I did my Maths A-level two years early, completing it during the final year of my secondary school course.

    For my AS modules, I got C1: 92 (a*), C2: 89 (a) and S1: 79 (b).
    However, I didn't do as well at A2 and got C3: 86 (a), C4: 60 (c) and S2: 79 (b).

So my final grade was a very low A (485 UMS).

The requirements for Warwick state that an A must be achieved at A2, so does this mean that I would not be offered a place if I were to apply for economics there?

    I'd greatly appreciate any advice,

    Thanks

    Hi,
no, your A2 overall grade is the total of all 6 modules, so you have achieved a grade A at A2 level, and hence would qualify to meet the standard offer from Warwick.
Whether you receive an offer or not will depend on the overall application, which your maths results are a part of.

Hello, I applied to Warwick for economics,
    My grades in IGCSE are : 6A* 2A and a C:mad:
    AS Level: AAAAB
    A Level : A (done Maths already)
A-Levels this year: Maths(re-doing), Economics, Physics Chemistry and Further Maths
I would like to know if this sort of look like a strong application?
    In my SAT II's I've gotten 780 Maths 780Maths 760 Physics.

When do people normally get offers?

    Hi,
it's not actually possible to say whether or not something looks like a strong application, simply based on grades and subjects studied, as we take into account the complete range of information on the UCAS form (including personal statement and school's reference) when making an application decision.

We release offers on a rolling basis, with the aim of processing applications quickly once they come in
