Re: Official Warwick Economics Q&A ThreadHi,(Original post by roseroserose.)
Is there much difficulty in switching between EPAIS and pure Economics at the end of 1st year? I've taken A2 maths & further maths if it helps.
(I'm not looking to switch, it would just be nice to know how flexible everything is!)
if you check page 12 of the current UG handbook, there is a table which outlines the conditions imposed on course transfers -

And what if I got an A* this year, would you then ask for AAB? Could I take two subjects next year as I've already done one this year?
Thanks for the reply
yes, if you got an A* in Maths this year, we would be asking for an additional AAB.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by taking "two subjects next year" though. Can you give me an example? -
Re: Official Warwick Economics Q&A ThreadYou need to take at least 4 subjects to meet our standard offer (at least 3 A2's and 1 AS), hence an additional 3 given you already have an A2 in maths(Original post by Junaid96)
Well, as I've done Maths this year, I thought I'd be able to take, say, F. Maths and German next year, get AA and meet your standard offer.Last edited by University of Warwick; 08-06-2012 at 21:36. -
Re: Official Warwick Economics Q&A ThreadA*AAB (4A2s) or A*AAa (3A2s & another AS)(Original post by Junaid96)

You'd have to pick up an AS next year, whilst carrying on your other 2 subjects to A2 -
Re: Official Warwick Economics Q&A ThreadOh no sorry! I thought you meant you were planning on doing Maths, Further Maths & German at A2, without having done other AS Levels! Ignore me 8)(Original post by Junaid96)
Oh okay, even though I'm taking 5 AS-levels this year? Shouldn't be a problem anyway, I'll almost certainly do 3 if not 4 A2s. Thanks for the info

Hello!
Will incoming students be able to apply for the Green Steps internship this year?
Thanks in advance
as far as I'm aware, this isn't organised by the Economics Department, so you would need to contact the organisers of the scheme directly to find out. -

the number of subjects you are currently studying is not a determinant of your offer. It is simply the number of certificated subjects you end up with, and you declare your intention for this on the UCAS form. -
Re: Official Warwick Economics Q&A ThreadYou won't be able to run STATA (which you definitely will require) on a Mac. So Windows would be a better choice especially as you will need to use STATA throught your entire degree.(Original post by jesuisbelle88)
Hello!
I am about to get myself a new laptop and I was wondering which OS will be better suitable, Windows or Mac, considering any specific software/programmes we would need to install as part of the course. I plan to do a majority of Math & Data Analysis modules so I assume we would need some database software. I have some visual disability so I may need to install the magnification software used by the university if necessary. I would actually prefer a Mac because it comes with very efficient magnification and of course is virus-free.
Thank you for your time.

Re: Official Warwick Economics Q&A ThreadEconomics lectures are held not only in the social sciences buildings but also in the Maths and Stats bldg, Ramphal and the Science Councourse.(Original post by jesuisbelle88)
May I also ask, which accommodation hall would you consider closest to the social science building?
Thanks -
Re: Official Warwick Economics Q&A ThreadSTATA does run on a Mac - http://www.stata.com/support/faqs/mac/leopard.html - and many of the academics in the department do so(Original post by mrigs)
You won't be able to run STATA (which you definitely will require) on a Mac. So Windows would be a better choice especially as you will need to use STATA throught your entire degree.
Whether you want to buy Stata for personal use, or use the university provided computers which have it installed, is up to you -
Re: Official Warwick Economics Q&A Thread
Hiya,
I'm currently choosing my A-levels, and I'm not entirely sure whether I should drop one of them to do Further Maths.
At the moment, I intend to study: Maths, Economics, Chemistry and Government & Politics- however many people have said if I don't study Further Maths, I would be at a disadvantage?
Also, do you have any statistics or information on the students Warwick accepted to study Economics- such as their A-level options (in particular whether the majority did study Further Maths?)
Thanks for your help :-) -

as I mention in the opening post of the thread, we don't have any preference for Further Maths over any other good A-Levels (either implicitly or explicitly, in the way some other universities do), and we make offers to students with a very broad range of A-Level subjects studied.
I try to encourage people to study Further Maths only if it's a subject they are passionate about, rather than doing so because it might look "better" on a UCAS application. -
Re: Official Warwick Economics Q&A ThreadHi,(Original post by gold.s19)
Hi,
Does Econ student at Warwick get access to a stock and company database similar to Bloomberg Professional? Or anything that is related?
Thanks
there is a range of software made available via IT services and also via the Library. For example, the Library provides access to Datastream (Datastream provides international financial, economic, stock market and company data. Includes coverage of equities, stock market and bond indices, economic statistics, foreign exchange rates, interest rates, fixed income instruments and derivatives.)
Some more specialist software is also available from the department.
If there is a specific piece of software you are interested in, I would contact IT services in the first instance. -

hi guys,
im currently , planning to study economics in university of warwick in October 2012,
can i get some recommendation on any on-campus residence which is near to my department? thanks in advance!
all the halls of residence on campus (aside from Westwood) are between a 5 and 10 minute walk from the department of economics, though you should be aware not all of your lectures and seminars will take place in the department.
You can view a map of campus here -
Re: Official Warwick Economics Q&A ThreadHi,(Original post by panda1093)
is it possible to be considered for second-year entry?
we typically do not permit entry in to the second year of our courses. The modules taught in second year follow on directly from first year, hence students who would enter in second year would be at a severe disadvantage.
