Re: Income tax percetages should be the other way roundAre there any countries in the world that have ever tried this?(Original post by SonnyZH)
Taxes should be regressive. Poor people will work harder to get into the lower tax bracket. We should live in a world that rewards achievement, not failure. -
Re: Income tax percetages should be the other way roundYeah, a flat tax is regressive enough if the incentive approach is desired.(Original post by Thrug)
WTB flat rate of tax.
The scheme proposed by OP misses the fact that the government needs money, incentives would work down as well as up, and it would generally fail badly

Re: Income tax percetages should be the other way roundIt would only benefit privileged people most of the time - the kind that are born with a silver spoon in their mouth. i.e. those who are born into rich familes who go to a private school - get a place at a so called 'top university' and are then in a better position employment wise than the rest. This is in addition to the contacts and connections they make by associating with other rich people. Why should these people then be rewarded even more with tax breaks when you have poor people with limited opportunities paying more? Your policy reeks of elitism - something I believe should be stamped out.(Original post by SonnyZH)

For example I knew someone who had finished uni and was struggling to find a job and had the opportunity to an internship. It was a good but they had to pay £2500 to do it. Now, lucky for them they could rely on mummy and daddy to help them out and it utimately lead to a good job. But what if that person was from a poor background? they would have most likely lost that opportunity and would therefore still be at the bottom of the pile.
The current system may appear to reward failure but in reality it is the best think we have in trying to make society equal - even thouh it never will be 100% -
Re: Income tax percetages should be the other way round
What a stupid idea. Even taking the extreme right-wing view that any kind of progressive taxation punishes success to an unjustifiable degree, you don't need a system like this to avoid that problem. It would simply amount to punishing people for being poor.

Re: Income tax percetages should be the other way roundYeah so really insanely rich people should never pay tax whilst the people at the bottom suffer? Great plan ace.(Original post by Snippetor)
I believe that we should reward success, not punish it. So to incentivise hard work we should reverse income tax percentages.
So for the x thousand you earn you are taxed 50%. so on and so on until you reach £150 000 when you are taxed nothing.
I have faith this will encourage hard work and graft. -

Re: Income tax percetages should be the other way roundClearly haven't thought it through, would just lead to more cash in hand, tax evasion(Original post by SonnyZH)
