Re: Debenhams Assessment and Interview
Wear smart for the induction. I am a girl , will be wearing black trousers and a smart black shirt (it's see through but will wear a cami underneath) and high heels!
All the women on the cosmetics counters wear high heels!
Fortunately my shifts are 4 hours a day, over 4 days and I can cope in heels for that length of time

I've never worn high heels :| It's not fair, I'm just under 5ft 11 and I hate being so tall so I don't want to make myself any taller haha

Re: Debenhams Assessment and Interview
I had a group interview last week, having failed to gain employment in July when I did the same thing. We had to go in pairs onto the shop floor (I went to menswear) and say what we liked, what we didnt like and what we would change and then relay back to the group. Then we did the CUSTOMER FOCUS thing. Then it was a one-on-one interview. We were all told it would take up to 21 days for a decision, but I doubt i've got it. A girl who lives near me was at the same interview was offered the job three hours after, so I'm not holding out much hope.

Re: Debenhams Assessment and Interview
Yes I got the job too, I had my assessment day on the 5th and got a call back on 10th so like the following week. Welldone to all that got the job and good luck to those still waiting. I start my training on the 4th nov. This thread has been very helpful.
For my interview what happened was:
We went to the interview room where there were 3 tables. We sat down randomly. We were then asked to describe ourselves as a car and why. then we had to do a group int with the customer focus word and think of a word for each letter that describes good customer service then share it with the rest of the other tables.
we then had to go onto the shop floor and look for wows and rescues about the store. Good and bad points. I would say ask staff that are on the shop floor what they like about working for debs and what they dont like. I didnt realise we had to ask them but u dont have to. mention about changing rooms, about customers, about displays etc. then we had to come back and stand up and tell the rest of the group and the interviewers.
Then we had to go to the canteen and wait for our one on one. btw there were also 5/6 interviewers in the room sitting at the front in the group interview but you only interviewed by one member of staff.
I didnt feel i did as well on the shop floor and group int because i didnt ask members of staff and my group was the biggest compared to other tables so i was afraid i didnt stand out so i made sure i shined in the one on one.
Hope this helps others. Good luck. -
Re: Debenhams Assessment and Interview
I've been to a debenhams assesment and interview a few months ago. I thought it went quite well. I was wrong. I didn't get the job... Those bastards!

I was told to do a little background research on Debenhams before the interview. So i checked the website, googled them, and read all about the designers at debenhams. Basic research really.
The one thing i think i stumbled on a few times were the situation questions, so think of situations when you showed leadership skills, team working skills etc.
My mind went blank and i came up with more academic situations rather than employment ones which i think they prefer as it shows you have more experience.
The assesment wasnt to bad itself. We had ice breakers, so think of 3 interesting things about yourself before it, just incase. Make sure your 3 interesting points make you stand out and memorable. -

Re: Debenhams Telephone Interview Help
Sorry for the bump.
Regarding the interviews does anyone know what the interviews are like for somebody who is applying for "Stock movement assisstant xmas temp" job? Do they still ask you to perform in groups inacting the selling of products (when you're only unloading stock in the warehouses for 12 hrs a week)? Anyone?Last edited by Sharpshooter; 22-10-2011 at 13:56. -
Re: Debenhams Telephone Interview Help
btw people, I waited 21 days after my interview and got no phone back, so I rang up and asked a rather polite version of 'wtf guys, seriously -.-', and the woman on the phone told me that basically, not getting a call back means I havent got the job and I can ask for feedback. So I did.
A week later (well, today) I got a call from Debenhams saying they would like to offer me a 16 house contract
so don't be fooled! once they have your details and you've had an interview you're probably going to get the job, especially now that Debenhams are doing really well and hiring a butt load of people to boost sales

Re: Debenhams Assessment and InterviewOMG i didn't realise they could give you a job in cosmetics - i thought most of the recruitment in that department was done through the original brands!(Original post by xDivax90x)
Just got a call and got a 10 hour shift on cosmetics
Thanks whattheheck and Minksthe1 you're posts really helped me a lot
and to a post further up I had my assessment on the 1st of Oct and just got the call today (11th Oct) so guess the time wait is different for everyone
I really really really hope they put me in cosmetics as I have a passion for it.
Which counter do you work at, are you enjoying it? :-)
xx -
Re: Debenhams Assessment and InterviewYeah I was really confused by that, the woman on the phone specifically said you'll be working on cosmetic accounts but when I got my contract it said accessories department. I'm happy anywhere though just thankful I got the job(Original post by Stephybabes)

Re: Debenhams Assessment and InterviewOh ok well I think my store is rushing it last minute cos I had my telephone interview yesterday and straight after it she was like do you want to come in for the assessment centre tomorow at 10? Obviously I said yes.(Original post by xDivax90x)

So then last night I was running around laying my clothes out and everything for the following morning and set my alarm for 7:15.
Woke up this morning and...looked at my phone and it was 9am. My alarm hadn't gone off. SO GUTTED.
Phoned the recruitment line and they said they don't know if there is another date for the assessments cos the store hadnt confirmed the other date so they will phone back. Still haven't heard anything
-
Re: Debenhams Assessment and InterviewYou should of still gone to it, there was a girl that was 15 mins late for the assessment but she rang the store and just said she was running late and they didn't mind, we started without her and she only missed the first exercise.(Original post by Stephybabes)
