Some questions about applying to an LSE Master's
1. Is there anywhere I can find out the number of applicants to places ratios for the Master's taught programmes?
2. Do you think you disadvantage yourself by putting two course options down? i.e. would it be better to apply early for your first choice then if you get rejected do another separate application for your second choice? That way when they look at your application they know you really want to study on that course, plus you can focus your statement on each course individually.
3. Personal statement of 2-3 pages seems excessive; that's 1000-1500 words. How much did you write?
4. What are the most important aspects of your application to a Master's at a place like LSE? University prestige? Personal statement?
Thank you very much. -

Hello there!
Congrats to all accepted and best wishes for those awaiting for the reply=)
Briefly: I have accepted the offer to MPA in Public and Economic Policy and was not given an accommodation=)
Sooo.... I am looking for
1) students of MPA programs (esp PEP), just to get in touch.
2) students without place in LSE accommodation. What are your plans? I put myself on a waiting list, surely, but I know I should search an alternative.. What about renting a flat together?
Do you know where I can find those ppl (from any group)?
Hi marigo
I am also on the PEP stream for 2012 entry. You should join https://www.facebook.com/groups/127797960671511/ if you are on facebook there are also some other people from the course here.
I am lucky to have been offered accommodation at Rosebery Hall. Best of luck in your search for private accommodation.
There's lots of people in that group there discussing their options for private accomm it's worth taking a look.

2. I think they would look at each application individually for what it's worth. I only submitted one application myself. Are you only allowed submit one personal statement if applying for two courses? The personal statement shouldn't really change depending on what course you want to do. e.g. your career ambitions should remain the same and your research interests should remain the same. Just because you apply to a different course doesn't change your hopes, interests or your previous achievements basically.
3. My personal statement was about 1200 words in length. I followed the guidelines as set out on the website and tried to put as much in as I could to make myself appeal to the selectors. You only get one shot, make it count.
4. Depends on each person. I put a lot of time into the personal statement, my references were from notable people in their fields of study and I had a good degree. But then again I had no relevant work experience so I can only assume they look at what you can offer as a whole and it's not dependent on any one box that needs to be ticked.
Hope that helps you!Last edited by simpey; 12-07-2012 at 21:21. -
Re: Some questions about applying to an LSE Master's
Hi Maskofinsanity, (cool nickname by the way). I'm not expert but here are my 2 cents
I don't think you put yourself in disadvantage by applying to 2 different courses at the same time. Most likely if you are serious about what you want to study your application won't select 2 completely separtate fields (e.g. econ and english for example) but your 2 options will be in the same field. Also, you can upload 2 separate personal statements one addressing each course choice. In that way you can use your references for both choices. For me the biggest stress was ensuring to get my academic references on time, even though I requested them early in advance my professors took 2 months to send them! The best thing is to apply as early as possible if you can.2. Mine ended up being 4 pages, and I had to reduce it to 3 pages.3. Personal statement of 2-3 pages seems excessive; that's 1000-1500 words. How much did you write?
Personal Statement for sure and references. If you are applying directly after finishing your undergraduate degree, grades will be important as well, but if you have been working for some years then a relevant and strong work experience helps a lot.4. Re: LSE postgrad applicants 2012-13You may already know this but I just thought that I'd put this out there for people who don't, LSE has a private accommodation office where you can get help in finding private accommodation.(Original post by nish81)
I'm also looking for private accommodation, as close to LSE as I can find, if anyone else is still on the hunt it could be useful to discuss finding a 2bed or something
You can go to their website: http://bit.ly/NhiaHB for their contact info. It also lists a number of other places you might want to look at.
Also, another good site to look for private accomodation is gumtree.com -
Re: LSE postgrad applicants 2012-13
Does anybody know how long time it takes for GA and faculty to process your documentation when you deliver it directly to them/SSC at this time of year. Do I have to wait the whole 5-10 working days? I have a conditional offer and sent my documentation that I have fulfilled these.
Offer from A&F. -
Re: LSE postgrad applicants 2012-13I have sent my documentation as well. They told me that I have to wait 2-3 weeks.(Original post by Blaasofapute)

I had a look at that site, but apparently the private accom office doesn't open until mid-august? I'm going down to London tomorrow to view a couple of places I managed to find, so if that information is wrong and the office is open then I'd go by LSE and have a look yeah
I've been all round gumtree, thanks though, also moveflat.com , find-a-property , etc. Managed to find a couple of places to view like I said so hopefully one works out

Those are good options but I do tend to find that the places offered by the accommodation office are a bit limited.
Gumtree can be good but quite a lot to filter through, and a few scammers etc.
I find www.spareroom.co.uk is great as is www.moveflat.com - lots more legitimate places, I think they do more vetting etc. -
