I was worked as a housekeeper at Tripp Lake last summer so lived with the kitchen staff so any questions or queries please feel free to ask

For anyone else applying I didn't get placed to mid march so still loads of time yet to not worry. As long as your forms and stuff are done asap you should be fine, good luck!

Heya i noticed you worked at Tripp Lake, i'm going there this summer to work as a lifeguard/swim instructor! Any tips or advice?! Thanks, Becky!

Firstly you're going to have an amazing time! My main piece of advice is that if you're planning to travel after camp make sure you either take a rucksac or bag you can easily carry because large suitcases are so unpratical on subways etc. It does get pretty cold in the evenings, even in July and August so take warm clothes to wear then. The bunks can get cold so you'll really appriciate being able to wrap up warm. I can't think of anything else at the moment but will let you know if I do!

I'll be 21 by the time I'm out there, I'm sure that we wont be the oldest. Everyone is probably our age, give or take a year or two!
I did Summer Camp USA this summer, and Bunac placed me at camp echo lake in NY. The average age at our camp was 22! And I'm 21, but there are lots of people older / younger. No need to worry, everyone is friendly and there are so many different people, you'll have an amazing time.

I want to go so badly now, but my student house tenacy begins from the beginning of July so I was going to live there over summer rather than waste £1000 pounds. So tempted to book an interview in a few weeks time!

Do it sooner rather than later! Bunac charge you an increased fee if you interview after March 1st. Plus it gives you more time to get placed at a camp!

You'd enjoy it so much I'm sure plus most camps finish middle of August so you'd be able to live in your new house for a few weeks before the new Uni year started.

Heya, just had a quick question I hope someone may be able to help with...I'd love to work at a summer camp in America and I'm torn besides Americamp and Bunac (although i'm going to be looking for next year as it's a bit late now and I still need save! ) I like Bunac for their included flights but on their website it says flights are "generally from London to New York"
Are Bunac flights negotiable of where they depart and return to the U.K from or is London the only destination? Just wondering about trying to get to and from London...

Yeah London is the only point of departure/arrival, they go out of Heathrow. What they mean by 'generally' is that sometimes depending on the location of your camp you won't fly into New York City. For example I know a few people who are flying into Boston this Summer but usually you go to NYC and then make your way out to camp from there. Camps cover the cost of you getting from NYC to them or sometimes they lay on a bus etc.

The BUNAC flights you don't pay anything upfront for, but they do take it back from your salary hence why you only get paid between $900 and $1100 depending on your age. The actual salary before their cut is around $2500+, however this is the same for Camp America, Camp Leaders, Americamp etc. With Americamp as I understand it with them costs to you upfront are more because you are paying for your own flights etc, but they have the highest wages so it equals out.

Bunac no longer accept CRB checks so don't apply for one of those! It's the ACPO police check that you want, there should be a form to print off when you log into you Bunac account after being accepted on to the program.

I can't speak for every single agency but I have to say that I don't know if they will; take you on. Pretty much every camp in America starts between mid may and the 27th June and Camp Leaders and Camp America won't take on first time participants if they're not available before the 27th June. Camps usually finish mid to late August so you needing to be back by the first of August is also an issue. Honestly, I don't think you would be accepted on to the program if you're only available for a month. Most if not all agencies need you to be available for at least 9 weeks because of visa requirements and camp start dates. Any chance you could be available over june-august this year? If not you might have to postpone it for a year

Try and be as outgoing and enthusiastic as possible. Focus on your experience with children and your relevant skills and tell them how excited you are about going. Look over the camp's website before your interview so that you can answer questions about it. Have some questions at the end to ask them as well. Good luck!!
