    Help with A levels?
Currently i'm in my last year of school, and have recently been to a college evening to get prospectus' for different colleges, and i'm thinking of going to a college where you can take 5 A levels, but i'm having difficulty choosing.

I'm not sure which combination to take.

    Biology
    Chemistry
    Physics
    Maths
    Geography

    or

    Biology
    Chemistry
    Geology
    Geography
    Spanish or gcse latin.

I'm not sure what I want to do when i'm older, except I want a job involving Science or geography or both. I'm currently working at an A grade in maths, and A*'s in separate science, as well as an A* in geography. I think i'd do better without maths and physics, but that's because I know it's extremely difficult and i'm a bit concerned, although it may open up more opportunities.

Jobs i've been considering are: Biochemist, Astrophysicist, Geophysicist , Doctor , Marine biologist. I'm aiming for Oxford or Cambridge but I won't be disappointed if I don't get in because I know it's difficult. I've heard they like people with a second langiage.

Sorry the question is so long! But any help/advice I am grateful of

I would say that unless the college says to HAVE to do 5 A/S's, take 4; it's a lot of work doing 4, so 5 would be really difficult. Besides, oxbridge say they only want 3 A2s, so no point doing okay in 5 rather than doing really well in 4.
Regarding subject choice, I don't think I'd choose Geology and Geography, as taking two similar subjects doesn't look too good.
Personally, I think the first list looks better

Well.. If I do the first list, but only do 5 AS Levels which one do you think I should drop in second year? And if I take 4 A levels, which 4 do you think I should take?
    Thank you for your help!

drop the ones you don't like doing/that you are worst at after the first year, simple as that.

Biology, Chemistry, Maths, Geography. Stick to just four

    How about..
    Biology
    Chemistry
    Mathematics
    Geography
    Spanish or Latin GCSE
    ??

Mainly because your second choice of subjects didn't include Mathematics, and if you can get a good grade in it, Maths can look very impressive on your UCAS form. Also because Geology and Geography are too similar, in my opinion.

This obviously would eliminate your choice of Astrophysics but unfortunately, at this point, you would have to eliminate some career groups.

I wouldn't advise a language A-Level normally, and I'm not familiar with Oxbridge's undergraduate schemes, but if you say that they "like" languages, then it's always good to have it.

Edit; Remember though, 5 AS Levels is quite difficult to get all A's in. It requires a lot of hard work, and most universities only ask for 3 A2's. Although I won't advise against it if you're willing to put in the work - many people do 5 AS Levels and manage to get AAAAA, thus leaving their uni subject options open, and obviously showing impressive academia.

It's just a nice thing to have languages are respected, but those are probably better

id recommend you take the option with spanish gcse I'm doing that, and it also means you don't have to worry about too much extra work load. A-level is a step up and it'll depend on how much you adjust to it, but i'm sure you'll appreciate the extra time towards your 4 main subjects as well as having a life etc

I've already done spanish at gcse level, i'm hoping to get somewhere between a B and an A* I'm now considering whether to take further maths too. It's such a big decision!
