Re: The "I'm applying to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" applicant chat thread
Hey everyone first post here; I applied for the MSc in Nationalism Studies some weeks ago and had a short question. Past friday, I noticed that all my documents have passed the clearance check; is this a sign that I can expect a response quickly or is it just a simple matter of someone checking the documents and then putting them atop of a huge pile of earlier applications? I can't complain really, only been waiting for 3-4 weeks now (seeing a lot of people here have been waiting for months), but still, really curious if anyone has some experience with the time between clearance checks and offers
.

Re: The "I'm applying to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" applicant chat threadHave you checked that they will actually accept an application from you at this late stage?(Original post by Lusine)
Heeeey, I'm applying to Edinburgh to do International Relations, but I am a transfer student and have held an unconditional from them before. I have still not sent off my UCAS application (I know it's really late, but I still have hope, it was a last minute decision!) so I was wondering if anyone has any advice for 'transfer' applicants? Any help would be appreciated
P.S. please quote
Edinburgh have generally had a policy in the past that all applications (including from people wanting to transfer) had to be received by the Jan 15th deadline and would be considered alongside everyone else.
It won't make any difference at all to your application that you've had an unconditional from them in the past. That was the past and for a different entry year. This is now. Plenty of people apply somewhere one year, get an offer, then apply again the following year and get a rejection. However, I hope it works out for you. -
Re: The "I'm applying to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" applicant chat threadNevermind this question, just got a conditional offer: just need to send a paper certificate op my TOEFL test (already got my results 4 weeks ago but still haven't received a paper certificate of my results, grmbl)(Original post by Gemenelepel)

Re: The "I'm applying to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" applicant chat threadI really feel for you - it's so unfair that you've had to wait all this time!(Original post by elebuughoti)
Still nothing. I never got any of the email updates and my emails are going unanswered. I know they're tremendously busy, but having no communication is making me unbearably nervous.
I REALLY hope that you get a response soon, and that its a positive one!
Don't give up hope!

Re: The "I'm applying to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" applicant chat threadThank you! I'm going to ring them tomorrow morning about it. I can understand my actual application not being answered after at this point--what's scaring me senseless is that they keep sending out mass emails to applicants about when they can expect to hear back (like the email from yesterday saying to hold out for 10 May), and that I never received any of these, despite calling the day the last one was sent out about this issue.(Original post by buddhacoffee)

And that my emails aren't being answered, similarly; I seem to be unable to be in contact with them, and that's the scary part, much more so than there being only a month left for decisions.

Re: The "I'm applying to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" applicant chat threadMaybe there is an email problem between you. However, if you applied via UCAS then you should get some response by 10 May at the latest on your UCAS track. Possibly, as far as they are concerned, you ARE getting the emails and you are in the same boat as everyone else waiting. Fingers crossed for everyone, including you(Original post by elebuughoti)

Re: The "I'm applying to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" applicant chat threadAw, thank you~. That's what I assume it looks like from their point of view, but I do want to check up on just in case it holds larger implications for my application (which is what I'm worried about).(Original post by imamum)

Re: The "I'm applying to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" applicant chat thread
Hold on in there those of you who are still waiting on a reply... it will come! and there's a 50/50 chance it will be good news!
felt like a lifetime waiting for mine, and I was at the stage where I swore I wanted to withdraw my application in retaliation :L also, my GCSE/AS Level grades were nothing spectacular (and I really do mean that), and I *still* received an offer, so don't think that the long wait means that you aren't good enough academically to 'get in'. By the looks of things, what's there on paper (whilst obviously important) is weighed up against many other things non-academically... have hope
(sounds like they're also taking all this time because they're doing things the old-fashioned way and really scrutinising the applications individually) Although, for those of you banking on contextual factors for a lower offer like I did, the more highly subscribed courses don't seem to take this into account and they actually gave me my highest offer of all my 5 applications (AAA) for English Lit & Lang. Speaking of, anyone here applying to do/have offers for English at Edinburgh this September? and have you any idea about halls? Incredibly nervous about it all, and meeting others who are on the same course. I live on the other side of the UK (Cornwall) and so won't be able to make the post-offer visits at such short notice that would've otherwise 'eased' me into it ): (thank you Edinburgh for the super late answer, haha)

Re: The "I'm applying to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" applicant chat threadWait, what? There's an equestrian club?! Whooah. Count me in(Original post by oliviaheleneugenia)
Is anyone here going to be joining the equestrian club, or MUN?
I really want to meet some people with similar interests so I at least know some people before I fly over to Scotland

In other news I'm staying in Edinburgh to look about & I've fallen in love with it here.

Re: The "I'm applying to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" applicant chat threadThanks, I certainly am especially when I got a bunch of rejections.(Original post by imamum)
Congratulations! You must be relieved. What were the conditions of your offer?
I already have all the grades so I just have to prove them and do a language test (I'm an EU-applicant). I got 776666 in a scale of 1-7.
Oh, I think it is really lame how they first sent a message saying "no later than 10 April" and now they are doing this to some of you... Why make promises in the first place.Last edited by 3sixsix; 12-04-2012 at 15:07. -
Re: The "I have an offer from Edinburgh" threadI'm about 2 hours outside Edinburgh. It really is quite exciting! My first choice is Nicolson Street. What's your friend studying?(Original post by magenta1)

Re: The "I'm applying to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" applicant chat thread
I applied for Nursing (international).... and my application is still pending! (I know you are all thinking story of my life when it comes to the word pending!) Anyway... I received an email sometime in February from a woman at Edinburgh saying I didn't have two of the SAT subject tests that are required. I told her I could take them in May asking if that would be too late and she said that she would email the admissions team about it. Now it is April and still nothing... it seems odd getting that email and not being rejected yet... quite worried I would like to email Edinburgh but I wouldn't know what to say anyway... any advice or thoughts?

Re: The "I'm applying to Edinburgh for 2012 entry" applicant chat threadWell you deserve your offer even more if everywhere else rejected you(Original post by 3sixsix)

Your grades are not familiar at all. As you can see by my forum name, I'm not a student but my daughter is going through all this and she's still waiting and hoping for an offer. She's an EU student too but her marks are in percentages. I keep my fingers crossed every day for some good news but nothing yet.

Re: The "I have an offer from Edinburgh" threadErm, I applied got unconditionals from Heriot Watt, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling. And I got a conditional of an A in Adv Higher Maths and a B in accounting from Strathclyde(Original post by magenta1)

There are quite a few people from my school going to Edinburgh uni so I at least know some people! haha! I can't wait for September. It's gonna be great.
